One of the greatest sanctuaries I've ever been to!
A must-visit!
There are beautiful details about it and about the architecture and fountains and I suggest reading about it before visiting the place to enjoy every step you take in that great place.
I, also, suggest going in winter or spring but absolutely not in summer.

Stunning views and lots of activities. Great playground for children on all ages. There’s also a lovely cafe and gift shop to visit. The path from here to Sameiro is lovely but can be steep for younger children and seniors.

Great experience! My suggestion is to climb all the stairs, great view of the city and nice to stop and check all the small chapels with catholic representation.
Church well manteined, stunning interior, absolutely worth seeing. Nice garden outside
Completely free of charge.

Excellent place amazing location and environment. A place must visit.

Located on the slopes of Mount Espinho, overlooking the city of Braga in the north of Portugal, this cultural landscape evokes Christian Jerusalem, recreating a sacred mount crowned with a church. The sanctuary was developed over a period of more than 600 years, primarily in a Baroque style, and illustrates a European tradition of creating Sacri Monti (sacred mountains), promoted by the Catholic Church at the Council of Trent in the 16th century, in reaction to the Protestant Reformation

Beautiful church and grounds! Lots of places with photo opportunities and great views of the city.

You can walk the steps or take an electric car to go up and down the several steps in front of the church.

Besides the church there is a great square with a coffee shop and an ice cream place. A great place to stop, appreciate the view and grab some snacks.

Lots of manifestation of Passion of Jesus (ie Jesus crucification).. wall paintings, and wooden sculptures and saints a stone stature is the Roman soldiers who pierced Christ on the cross. Lots of stone architecture and gardens surrounding the chapel. Worth visiting if you are a Catholic. For non- Catholics it has historic significance to learn. The steps leading up the chapel is symmetrical .. if you take a pic from the bottom, it would look amazing.. but it was raining (Dec), and I did not want to risk the slippery steps. There is a funicular Tram €2 single trip and €3 for round trip. There was no entrance fee when we visited, maybe our tour guide paid.. better check if you plan to visit. If you drive, there is a carpark (chargeable).

Beautiful view of the city below, gardens, and church. Note that unless you are there to pray, you should not go in the church. Even so, plenty to enjoy up top

Although it may be out of the way if you're visiting Port, it's a must go destination. The architecture, the scenic views of the city below, and just the overall planning of this magnificent structure is something to be seen. The drive up the mountain is gorgeous with beautiful houses and parks that, if you can, stop by and visit.

To reach the Bom Jesus Sanctuary, you can go by foot, car or even take the vertical tram, an impressive piece of 19th century engineering.

Stunning views from this gorgeous church. Lovely walks, gardens and a big park a little further up. Very unusual alter scene showing Roman soldiers. The interior is very beautiful. Nice gift shop next door with a good range of both religious & non religious items.

Interesting and nice place, with magnificent church and statues, gardens, and plants. There are a lot of stairs to climb. But you can opt for a taxi rito the church entrance, with 1 euro entry fee, and walk down the stairs.

Beautiful beautiful beautiful ! It is populated by tourists yes but should that stop you from visiting no ! Locals will complain about this problem but I could see past it and appreciated the amazing architectures and gardens. It’s a place you want to stay a bit and take in. There’s drink and restroom available me at the top. Getting to the top is recommended by the fun old “funicular” lift (you need cash) and walk down to the bottom via the stairs.

Actually a really beautiful experience! Stunning view from the top. There was a wedding going on so didn't get inside, but definitely worth spending a couple of hours. Some places to get a coffee or a drink. Statues along the way, are interesting and so dramatic you can feel those emotions...

Bom Jesus do Monte, definitely the highlight of our Braga trip. Like your parents always tell you. Go to the washroom before you leave the station. You have to pay at the station or at Bom Jesus.

We took the 20 minute bus ride from the station. Taking the number 2 bus that leaves (every 30 minutes) from the far left as you exit the station. You can buy your fare from the transit wicket in the station and have your fare loaded to a card at a discount. Return the card when you are done to get 1 Euro back per card!

Keep your eyes peeled for curiosities as you head up, like the Braga sign and the historical district. There is a lovely shopping area if that is more your thing.

You can ride a tram to the cathedral or if you are into stairs, take the path near the park entrance to the stairs. There are a lot of them and it is fairly shady on the approach, take the right stairs once you reach the mezzanine as that is shady. Some people, run the stairs for a workout.

At the top you will find pay washrooms and refreshments.

It is a historical place that is not too flashy, but is very elegant. Perhaps the most beautiful monastery in Portugal, it is full of history. This is a must-visit monastery.

This was a beautiful church that was a surprise for the intricacy of the interior and attached chapels. It was definitely worth the drive or if you need to take the funicular to get to it that is also worthwhile. Very beautiful ‼‼

This was a very unexpectedly wonderful visit. The site is a religious place and the sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte is beautiful and impressive in size.

Even if you are not a believer like myself I would recommend stopping here. Apart from the sanctuary which is worth the visit on its own, there are other beautiful areas nearby.

We spent around an hour and a half wandering around as it was pretty relaxing and we visited early in the morning when not many people were around. We parked our car in the parking lot close to the sanctuary but if you feel you can walk you can park for free and walk your way up to the sanctuary (there is also an elevator taking you up from there as well)

Happy we stopped here!

It's a quick Uber ride from Braga. You get dropped off on the same level as the church, so you can explore it and then walk down that amazing staircase. There's a place to get drinks right next to the church. The views are fantastic. The grounds are clean and well maintained.
