Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always wanted to go to the real great escape camp. My pops showed me this movie when I was 13 and I’ve watched it a lot throughout my life. So on my first euro trip I included Poland in it for a few days, rented a car and drove from Wroclaw, about 95 miles. The actual site is about a half a mile away from the museum which is really cool! The woman there didn’t speak English, you’re in zagan so it’s expected, I didn’t have cash, they require cash but she nicely let me in. I spent about two hours at stalag luft 3, there isn’t much there but remains, but it’s beautiful. Can’t believe I finally made it there.

Nice museum. If you are a WW2 fanatic, it is a must see.
Be for warned that the English of the museum folks is very limited.
I wish I had gone to Pozan to see the graves of the 50.

Stay on the German side of the river for accommodations.

Be aware that the museum doesn't open until 10am. That aside, it's a fantastic place to visit and helps to tell the story of life in Stalag Luft lll. I felt that I understood the escape much better after I had visited here and I consider it a must do for all fans of the story

Really a good museum over 3 sites the museum with a mocked up camp building, then another site where the site of Harry the tunnel is, then to the memorable site of the airmen were

The museum gives an insight to life in the starlags and the incredible bravery and endurance of the men held there.
There is a couple of mile between the museum, tunnel and cemeteries.

I was Lucky enough to miss a guided tour to Stalag luft III booked through Tripadvisor, full tour. Instead I contacted the musseum and was fortunate to get a tour with Marek.
The knowledge and passion of this man combined with the echo of history from the camp and museum made this a remarkeble day that I will remember every time I rewatch the movie. If you get the chanse, go there!

Really great place. Very friendly welcome, interesting museum complete with a tunnel you can go into. Very inexpensive and such good value. We also visited the exit site of Harry and wandered around where the hut was, saw the theatre, etc with helpful information boards. Definitely recommend. Thanks to the lovely man who served us and set up the TV room for us to play the film in English.

If you are interested in WWII history and especialy about Stalag Luft III, this is a must place to visit. Make sure you also walk through the woods to the back entrace of the Zagan train station, just like the heroes of the Great Escape did on the night of March 24/25 1944 and the remains of hut 120 in the North Compound. Sqn Ldr Roger Bushell, the organizer of the Great Escape, lived in this hut. Enjoy your visit

Had an excellent experience and personal guided tour of the Museum Camps Stalag VIII C & Stalag Luft III by Museum Director Marek Lazarz. I had an uncle who was a POW in Stalag Luft III Nov 1944-Jan 1945. He survived. But I got to see the remains of the camps & tunnel memorial for the "Great Escape" in 1944. Truly an historical place of significance. Highly recommend a visit to this memorial to the past.

It's definitely worth the visit.'So much history here . Once you find what you're looking for, it all comes together . Some of the sites are not easy to find.

Excellent museum focusing on The Great Escape. Very interesting and informative. Nice exhibition and quite a few items.
You do need a car or a bike as there are three stations to go to separated by 1-2 km.

We were very surprised we could just walk around, walking the length of the tunnel really gives a feeling of scope .

Memorable place, not to much to see from old camp, just marked tunnel and watchtower. Must see if you liked the great escape movie.

Such an interesting place, the history of which was brought to light by our wonderful guide Marek whose place of work and passion are discovering and sharing ever more of the place's history.
A bonus for us: being granted permission to overnight at the museum in our truck ... For free.

Marek, the museum director, invited us as his guests and guided us throughout one of the most special and one of a kind tours we have ever experienced in our lifetime. We could not recommend this tour more highly. A very special thank you to Marek and his team for all the wonderful work they are doing here.
