Andres Bonifacio's Birthplace Monument

This is a small park with a monument dedicated to Andres Bonifacio in the middle. There are a few benches scattered around alongside some palm trees. It fronts Tutuban Shopping Center and is a convenient rest area in between trips around this side of Manila.

A statue and monument commemorating the birthplace of Gat. Andres Bonifacio in Tondo, Manila. Somehow a unique statue in which he is depicted holding a pen instead of the usual blade, the revolutionary is the locale's favored son and remains in a central place in the history of the Philippine Revolution of the late 1800s.

In his youth, Gat Andres Bonifacio sold abanicos (fans) to earn a bit of money. One of his monuments now sits amidst vendors amd shoppers like a patron saint. When I find myself in Divisoria, I spare a glance up this monument and whisper my thanks and tell him oppressed we still are.

Thanks to the efforts of the city mayor to clean up the historical sites around Manila, this monument that stands as the only reminder that the Great Plebeian's home was once located here was removed of vending tents and other obstructions that defames and degrades one of our national heroes that shed blood for our freedom.
