LOCATION OF BALIWASAN, ZAMBOANGA CITY
Barangay of Baliwasan is an Urban Barangay located just inside the 7 kilometer radius from the business center of the City. It is categorize as Residential and Commercial Barangay, considered as one of the coastal Barangay in the West Coast area with some private mini-ports. It's about 3.5 kilometers from downtown adjacent to 4 neighboring Barangay, Barangay Campo Islam, Barangay San Jose Gusu, Barangay Canelar and Barangay Cawa-Cawa.

HISTORY OF BALIWASAN, ZAMBOANGA CITY
Before the Spaniards came, there were four Subanun brothers living in the area of what is now Zamboanga City. They were: Tubunaway, Dumulalandan, Sumolidlid and Idsak.
When the Spaniards came, brothers Tubunaway, Dumulalandan and Sumolidlid left for other parts of Mindanao.
Brother Idsak remained and resided in Tetuan. One of his sons, named LIWASAN and his followers took up residence in an area that is now known as BaLIWASAN.
Descendants of Idsak and his children and their followers spread out along the west coast of Zamboanga where the Subanen presence can still be noticed.

PEOPLE OF BALIWASAN, ZAMBOANGA CITY
Barangay Baliwasan is one of the most populated Barangay included in the top 5 out of 98 Barangays in Zamboanga City. Human Habitats in the area are mixed with different tribes and religion, about 60% of it is composed by Catholics, about 30% are Muslims and 10% of it composes of Christian and other religions. Most of Baliwaseños are inclined with fishing, selling of fresh sea crops, working at some fishing vessel, “Basnig” and other income related job located at the Seaside area where they can earn for living. Driving of PUV, tricycle, Pedi-cab are also one way of earning in this Barangay and rest are working professionals and/or as self-employed.
