Very scary and awesome. Like most we climbed to the edge of the crater and it is a bit of a frightening site as it is one of the most active volcanoes in the country and has erupted numerous times in the past. Actually it is composed of a main crater and several smaller craters. The Main Crater Lake is approximately 2 kilometers in diameter and contains a small island called Vulcan Point. This point is the site of a number of volcanic vents and is considered to be the most active part of the volcano.

The landscape now is so different since I visited the island volcano in October 2017 due to several eruptions.

Didn't go... only looked it up to see exactly where it was located as it was erupting 😮. Lots of smoke coming out. Turns out we are 60km away, so no big deal for us, but lots of people living just 10km away. There they canceled school and many people had breathing problems. 🙏 for them. 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐ for nature and mother earth 🌎 at its best and worst.

News of the phreatic eruption of Taal Volcano yesterday (12 Jan 2020) made me think of the trip to the crater we took 12 years ago (in 2008). From Tagaytay, we rode down to the lakeside and took a boat to the volcano. From the shore, we rode on horseback up to the crater of the volcano within a volcano and the view was just ... breathtaking!
I hope that after the dust settles, Taal Volcano will recover its beauty. I'm optimistic, though -- look at Mt. Pinatubo. Nature has a way of taking care of herself.

Worth it

First take a cab to the nearby island. Then take a boat to the volcano. Then come up to the top and then climb down inside the crater. Long long long journey but worth every second of it

You would visited an active volcano. In the crater it still smells of sulphur so please decide accordingly how close you want to get to that place without suffocating yourself it feeling nauseousness

Helpful guide and prepare for the climb if you are a chain smoker. Not going to be easy.

But go for it for sure after checking all regulations and weather and timings to visit the volcano

I went there after long driving. ( 30 minutes from Tagaytay )
And then another 20 minutes whit boat for going to island. 😆
No; not arrived yet. You have to use horse for climbing to the mountain.
So nice view.
Not expensive. For 2 person 2500 peso i paid.
But watch out for horse guy's. And picture seller's up there.
I'm recommending that place. You will enjoy it. 👍

Up for some daytime adventure? Try getting close to the 2nd active volcano in the Philippines. It’s worth the sweat and heat going on the trail. It’s really beautiful here and a perfect spot for IG photos if you’re into that. Check my review for the Trail. More cool photos available on my IG and reviews in the “Taal Lake”

Tagaytay is the unofficial "Second Summer Capital" of the Philippines. Mostly a 2 hour journey from Manila due to traffic. Mostly people rent cars to come here because it's more convenient. Try to avoid the trip in July, August and September because of heavy rainfall in that months.
The journey in boat through the lake to the mountains is so amazing and full of of mesmerizing scenes. You can see small islands around you. Once you reach the base of the mountain there's is an office where we can get the tickets from. It's less than 500 peso for one person. I personally prefer not to take horse ride , because it's more easy and the journey finishes so soon. If you prefer walking up to the mountain top, that is going to be remarkable. It's going to be a nice hiking. You'll have small huts to rest in between. Everything is worth for the view of Taal lake from the mountain top. Sometimes you can walk up to the crater. But it was a risky season when we went and there were smoke and heat coming from the edges of the mountain at that time. We spend more than 2 hours there.
There are small canteens at the base from where you can eat. After the journey we'll be exhausted due to heat but everything is worth.

Taal Volcano is a true beauty of nature of the Philippines. Surrounded by the ambience of the green fauna and beautiful lake. The most incredible experience I had was the amazing horse ride up the island with great hospitality, providing beverage stalls at certain points to quench down your thirst while moving up. A breath-taking site and view that must be experienced once you have reached the peak of the volcanic island. Unfortunately, it erupted on January 12, 2020 but the visit was mesmerizing and amazing!

Finally got here and I'm glad I did. Very nice scenery and a little history as well. Right at the intersection of the winding road down to Talisay, there are trike drivers who will give you a ride if you don't have your own POV. 200p down and 300p for the return trip. Was surprised to not find a general boat dock; trike driver took us to J-Cell Boat Station resort which offered the ride over. Took a little negotiating but we got the price to 2,000p all in; which was 1,500p for boat, plus 500p for entry fees X 3. The hike up is not all that hard but is dusty so bring a bandana and water. Once at the top there is a place off to the right which has drastically better photo shots and almost no other people for 50p. I forgot the name of it but you can ask the soda lady once you get to the top.
The small island within volcano lake is Vulcan Point. So I saw an Island (Vulcan Point) on a Lake (Volcano Lake), on an Island (Volcano Island), on a lake (Taal Lake), on an island (Luzon Island).

Nice view of the Crater Lake inside "Taal Volcano", a boat ride across to the island then by horseback up to the volcano top. The area is surrounded by hills and forests, a lovely natural attraction which was an active volcano until as recently as 1977

Was so happy to visit the Taal Volcano on my recent trip to the Philippines. Guides on horses were great. Red lava has a better view of the volcano.

Taal Volcano is an active volcano located in the southern part of Luzon, the Philippines' main and biggest island group. It has erupted many times these past few yeas (perspective is from 2022) and has caused problems to many of the towns and residents around it. The volcano is within the territory of at least two provinces, Cavite and Batangas. Still, despite its volatile nature, Taal Volcano is a beautiful place that easily reminds us of the power of natural forces. When calm, it offers a picturesque view that you can enjoy from afar, or take a guided tour within the volcanic island. It is near the capital and accessible if you want a break. It is just a 1 to 2 hour drive away from the National Capital Region. It is a must see when in Luzon! Before going, it is good to check the current situation of the volcano since authorities do not allow activities within the volcanic island when there is an eruption.

breath-taking view. must visit in tagaytay.
but please don’t ride the horse, because they are old and i feel bad for them. just a 40-min hike would do no harm.

Beautiful and energy place. These photos have been taken on December 14, 2019. Less than one month before eruption.

Lake within an island within an island, amazing right? Started our trip with an early bus from Manila, simple enough to find. There are two buses, 1 with air conditioning and one without.

Once in Talisay it is easy to get transport down to the lake (the actual volcano caldera). Apparently you should walk down or up as the dogs are vicious.

Once down, arrange a boat from numerous vendors to the island. They will try to sell you ridiculous prices but negotiate to a reasonable price.

The boat ride was very choppy, expect to get splashed in rough conditions.

We walked to the next lake. Many donkeys and horses on route up.

I was hoping to experience some volcanic activity, in a few areas you can see and feel stream raising from the ground.

Altogether it was a great day trip, no need to book a tour if you're young and fit and looking for adventure!
