The Claustros de la Compañía (Cloisters of the Company) is a historic and architectural gem that offers a glimpse into the rich colonial past of the region. This site is notable for its beautiful architecture, cultural significance, and vibrant marketplace.

The Cloisters of the Company are part of the larger La Compañía Church complex, which was built by the Jesuits in the 17th century. This Baroque-style church and its cloisters are located in the heart of Arequipa, near the Plaza de Armas, making it a central and accessible historical site.

The Cloisters feature classic Baroque architectural elements, including intricate stone carvings and ornate facades. The use of sillar, a white volcanic stone typical of Arequipa, gives the structures a distinctive and elegant appearance.

This beautiful and historical yard is free to visit from the streets. You will also find restaurants and coffee shops in the yard. It is not a huge area, you can walk through it end to end within about five minutes. It will also help if you get some guides to explain when and how it was built, then visit the church near by.

A must see in Arequipa. Beautiful place and some of the better shoos with Alpaca clothes.
It was build as part of the church but is now a place with small shops, restaurants and cafes.
Also a stop for many to have a picture in front of the fountain.

It takes about five to ten minutes to walk around, the entrance is voluntary. The details of the columns are beautiful. Try to spot the references of Inca culture mixed with the Spanish culture carved in volcanic stone.

Such a beautiful place. A bit expensive (40 soles per person) but it was worth it for the photo ops and the amount of things to look at.

We only strolled through, but as it's just a stones throw from the Plaza de Armas you definitely should too! Beautiful architecture, like a Indiana Jones backdrop just more authentic.

Beautiful area, free entry, and there was a musician playing traditional pipe and flute music. So enjoyable!

Kind of undistinguished place from outside but incredible awesome inside! 🏰
So, don't be fooled to loose your chance to visit this place if you are taking a walk close to Calle General Móran. ☝
Also if it is not so late you can go to the second floor there is a good viewing point. 🗼
Enjoy your Arequipa City Tour!

Very cool little spot. Used to be a monastery that they've turned it a strip mall of sorts. Live music at times in the plaza area with the fountain. Check out the church next door as well. Very beautiful

Queso helado, restaurant hawkers, ladies selling coffee, Knick knacks, crowds and tons to see, the Plaza de Armas can be a bit overwhelming. So, come on over this way, inside, a respite and calm.

There’s a place for artisanal beers, cocktails or just sit down and grab a coffee and watch the world go by.

Bonus, if you’re here in January and it’s raining they’ll pull your table under the overhang. 👍🏼

My favorite place ever in Arequipa City. Historic, magnetic and mysterious. The Cloisters is a peaceful place in the middle of the city, right next to the main square of Arequipa where you can sit down and relax, have a coffee or a beer, take pictures and do some shopping of authentic alpaca goods.

very old, nice and secure place. Great to make a break from the busy down town, enjoy a coffee or a Pisco Sour and feel the vibrations of this very nice monument. Check Cafe Bar Senor Misti (in the corner).
