This is a beautiful place to visit and get some fresh air while learning some regional history as well. The walk is pleasant. There are several people along the route selling snacks and trinkets. Well worth taking a tour up. However, with the quantity of tour groups going at the same general time, it can get crowded so go early.

Interesting and mysterious site, it's based around a natural eroded volcanic rock garden which is impressive on its own. The ancient people carved out a water channel through the rock, and carved artwork into the sides. It's another strange place where you can wonder about the ancient Peruvians and their life and worldview. Good place to relax in nature as well - it took about three hours to walk from Cajamarca, through fields and livestock paths

The voyage up the mountain from Cajamarca was incredible, but the destination was unbeleivable and unforgetable! For me being at a very high altitude, and out of shape, was slightly strenuous, but worth every labored breath! You will not be disappointed with this destination!

Picturesque view and interesting site to visit. It takes a bit of walking and air is more rare than in Cajamarca due to the altitude. This place is protected by the guard by the sacrifice stone.
Entrance is 8 soles but we took this as a tour and that included also the guide who explained about the rivers and hieroglyphs in the stones.

Incredible volcanic formations on the edge of Cajamarca. The winding road up to the Forrest takes you through interesting working class communities and through beautiful farmland. The Forrest itself is a relatively short 4km loop that takes you in-between beautiful pillars covered in petroglyphs. Be careful with the sun! You'll fry even if it is overcast!

A wonderful place to explore.
We arrived around 11.30am, and the tour busses were just leaving, so we had the place to ourselves.
We walked back to Cajamarca, which was quite the hike with 1000m elevation loss, but good on the legs!

I loved it. Wonderful place. Perfect for a good treck. Due to the height (around 3500 meters above sea level) it can be a bit rough for beginners, but it is perfectly doable. You do have to watch your step in some areas. Totally worth it though, as the sights are breathtaking.

Nice 2h walking tour. There is a loop trail and finishes with narrow path between the rocks. Nice to bring some food.
