Very nice cultural experience, and the cable car ride to the top was gorgeous . Only 25% of the site was open when we visited due to erosion and collapse, but it is currently being restored in hopes of opening the majority of the site. A definite must if you plan on visiting the Chachapoyas region .

This majestic citadel on top of the mountain will leave you speechless. The tour is well worth as you will get a lot of interesting information about the history behind it. A magical place surrounded by breathtaking views.

I loved this place and its deep and meaningful history. The remembrance of a time where things were so much more simple yet very complicated. Everything about this place shows you how creative and destructive we can be. I highly recommend getting a really good guide and taking a walk back in time.

Great place to visit. Coated about 80PEN in total to get there and the views on the way are amazing. The view from the ruins are great and it's a very easy walk to them.

Absolutely breathtaking, the cable car ride was a bit long, but that's expected.
The walk up was manageable and the view from the top is priceless. Enough shade and a steady walk at the top.

A very good place to visit in the north of Perú. It is one of the most fascinating archaeology sites in all of the country, and definitely up there in the world as well. Unbelievably hidden from the outside world for many hundreds of years until a local pastor came across it under the brush and now have it displayed for the world to enjoy. They say the city is not in a fortress, so perhaps it is best described as a walled city, but one could imagine what that might look like. It is deceivingly small from the outside as you have to walk around it to get in, then once you’re inside, you realise how large it actually is. Admission is s/25, or s/15 for students like myself. The site can be accessed by driving or for those that do not mind heights so much, the cable car (telecabina). Would highly recommend to anyone interesting in the Chachapoyas people and history.

Would have to be one of the most spectacular ruins I have seen in Peru. A must do on your trip. Cable car ride is great beautiful scenery.

The view is amazing, nice walk. 30 min to get up and then 1 hour around the ruins. The ride on the teleférico was unbelievable

One of the best historical places to visit in Perú. Is located in Chachapoyas....which is in the jungle. To get there....you take a flight for 1hr and 30min to Jaen city and then a bus to Chachapoyas for around 4 hours. It is totally worth it!

Do not compare with Macchu Pichu, please. Kuelap has its own personality, at the top of a range over 3000m and overlooking a foggy forest and a large landscape. This formidable citadel seem to be a little bit abandoned, but in return walking around there may be an amazing experience (always with a guide). I was particularly impressed by the entrances and the misterious construction settle at its highest point called "the temple"...still have so much to know about the ancient Chachapoyas culture

It was a very nice experience all throughout.
The only suspended cable cars in Peru offers breathtaking views. If you are in Chachapoyas you must go. I recommend going in an organized tour with "Kuelap Sumaq" agency. My experience was very smooth and the guide was very knowledgeable.

We had a great experience. The telepheric is just great and good organisation. We shared a guided tour and shared a great experience. Most of the site is visible. And great views.

This is Machu Picchu but 30 years ago. An amazing archaeological site with way fewer people, and the convenience of a cable car service that will get you to the entrance on the fortress in 10-15 minutes. Going by car / bus can take up to 60-75 minutes in a very long winding road. Tour guides are available for hire at the site. There is also a small cafe that offers snacks, refreshments and, yes, beer! For now they only accept cash and MasterCard. Look out for the weather. We drove from the Achamaqui Hotel, leaving 6am and arriving 7:45am (cable car wasn't working). They open 8am. Our tour took like two hours, you may want to give it more time for pictures, and just enjoying the sites.

Stunning views from this mountain top fortress. Still a lot of work being done so it will only get better. Well worth it.

Just incredible. The fortress of the Chachapoyas culture will leave you amazed. The aperture of the cableway (for only 20 soles and 20 minutes, not for vertigo sufferers) makes easier the visit to this archeological site for older people and children. But for those who love trekking you can always take the 3 to 4 hour way to the fortress. It's a must go when visiting Amazonas. The entrance is up to 20 soles for adults. To get to the top you must walk 30 minutes o less or you can rent a horse. Guide is optional.

A must see in Amazonas, now easy reachable by cable car. Hike down after a forenoon visit, if you have time

A great place to visit and I enjoyed more than Macchu Picchu. We stayed at Muya hostel in Nuevo Tingo so we could get up here early. It never gets that busy but getting the 9am cable car meant there were just 5 other tourists in the ruins. An incredible place to visit. The cable car makes it much easier than trekking to get here. 20s for cable car and 20s for ruins entrance. Note you still have to walk uphill 15mins from the cable car station to the ruins.

Visited before it closed down last year but the site is breathtaking. Well worth a visit if you get the opportunity.
I know quite a few people are disappointed at not being able to get close or into the site but I've travelled a lot less to see a lot less and been happy (Stonehenge is one that springs to mind). Anyway, it's worth the visit even just to stand next to a site older than the Incas in my view!
