This temple situated on the banks of the River Bagmati is the most revered Hindu temple in Nepal. The most important festival observed here is Shivaratri.

The temple campus is huge and very beautiful. Keep at least a hour to thoroughly visit the temple and for prayers.
Photos are not allowed inside the campus, so kindly respect the same.

You can cross the river and climb to the other side to get the views of the great temple.

"न जायते म्रियते वा कदाचिन्
नायं भूत्वा भविता वा न भूयः।
अजो नित्यः शाश्वतोऽयं पुराणो
न हन्यते हन्यमाने शरीरे।।" (Bhagavad Gita 2.20)

"For the soul, there is neither birth nor death at any time. He has not come into being, does not come into being, and will not come into being. He is unborn, eternal, ever-existing and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain."

This profound teaching reminds us that the soul is eternal and indestructible, transcending the limitations of the physical body. The cremation rituals at Pashupatinath serve as a powerful affirmation of this timeless truth, guiding the departed soul on its journey towards ultimate liberation.

But beyond the rituals and ceremonies, Pashupatinath Temple is a place of profound spirituality and inner transformation. This is a very famous shiva Hindu temple in Nepal where each day lot of people come to visit the place specially from India. Please check the open hours time before visiting this place.

There is a main temple which opens in the morning from 4AM to 10AM and in evening till 6PM but rest of the temple opens till late.

There are so many small small temple with statues and temple area is so wide and it would take 1-2 hours to walk around the temple.

Best time to visit this temple is in the early morning.

Caution- Beware of monkeys in the temple.

I love this ancient temple complex with its richness in history. The temple is huge, consisting of the Life and Death area for worship.
You'll find the cremation area by the Bhagmati River, a hospice care near the main temple, and some Sadhu (Hindu monks) houses by the cliff.
There are also 11 identical stupas housing 11 Shiva Lingga, with such precision that you can see the whole 11 Lingga from one angle.
You will see some Hindu Monks chilling in the temple, and be aware that they're asking for money if you want to take pictures with them.
Tourists in general can only access the outer area of the temple, but don't worry, even the outer area is huge and you'll spend some time to explore all of it.

When we purchased the tickets at the locket, there was a guide pretending to explain us about the rules and regulations. He tried to show us around but he never mentioned about his fee. When we asked him about his service, he finally said $15. We didn’t want to use any guide so we said no.

It would be better if the guide didn’t pretend and just ask.

Apart from that, it was a very interesting place to be. Where you can watch live cremation there.

This is one of the holiest site for Hindus in Nepal. The temple campus is big. You can Puja materials from outside the temple. There is a free shoe stand also for the visitors. The main temple is very beautiful. This place is usually crowded and you may have to wait from 30 mins to one hour for the darshan of the main idol. An aarti is also performed here at the back side of the temple in the evening which is beautiful to watch.
Pro tip: Although the temple premises are open for most part of the day, the main temple had fixed timings. Visit this place after checking the timings on the official website of the temple to plan better and avoid crowd.

Everyone's must visit place when in Kathmandu. It's not just a Hindu temple but also holds a part of history of Kathmandu. Busy from morning till evening, if you had to choose one, I'd say go in the evening and stay till the end of evening prayers that happens everyday on the river bank.

It's always the vibe. Never regret going there.
For tourists: A quick escape to city hustle. There's a nice religious aura around the temple. You can just stroll in different parts of the temple (with or without the guide). I recommend you sit across the main temple and zone out from the world. You can find benchs to sit and spend time. Also, if you are up for it, go in the evening for Sandhya Aarati. It's blissful.

When we head to the Pashupatinath Temple and entered to the main gate, we feels like Its having a another type of energy, which makes us to have goosebumps like we achieved something after been here.

Its ancient origins, architectural beauty, religious significance, and continued relevance in modern times make it a cherished symbol for both Hindus and the people of Nepal. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it represents a commitment to preserving and promoting Nepal's unique cultural identity.

The most magical and peaceful place in Kathmandu. The feeling you get once you step into the place is unbelievable feeling. The architecture of the complex is beautiful. Hindu heaven is real when you feel the energy here. Good place to visit for a few hours and explore.

As a foreigner (or non Hindu) you will be charged 1000 RS for ticket and there areas of the complex where non Hindus can't visit.

Nice and peaceful place.
Visit during the evening only if you'd like to see the aarati. Else you can visit during the day because it's comparatively less crowded during the day time than the evening.

It is believed that those who die at Pashupatinath Temple are reborn as a good person without any obstacles that could worsen their karma. Temple of God Shiva. It is forbidden to enter the temple. Only Hindus can enter. You can see Nandi, Shiva's bull, if you break the crowd a little. Since Shiva is the protector of all living creatures and animals, there are many monkeys and cows wandering around freely. Watch out for monkeys. They may even steal your bag or phone. There is a different atmosphere here. Death speaks silently. Bagmati river, a tributary of the Ganges, is right next to the temple. The area where the dead are cremated and washed according to the caste system. Don't leave this place without experiencing it. Interestingly, although the dead are cremated, there is no seriously bad smell that will disturb you. Unlike, you cannot hear any lamentations or even loud speech during these ceremonies. People bid farewell to their dead with respect. What's strange is that besides people's suffering, there are a lot of tourists talking loudly, taking photos. Life and death side by side. A holy Hindu temple which is also a world Heritage Site as declared by Unesco.

In the evening there is very less crowd. Capturing photos inside the temple is not allowed but you can click photos outside the entry gate.

Also no need to deposit your mobile, wallet, belts etc. You can go inside easily.

Inside the temple, god Shiva is in the main temple, there are 4 gates of temple one at each direction. A big Nandi idol is also there facing Lord Shiva.

One of the most sacred Hindu temple in the world . Its mythogy is linked with Kedarnath temple in India . Hundreds of years old temple is constructed on the bank of Bhagmati River . It has four faces of Shivling Darshan each in all four directions . It is assumed that Lord shiva face is worshipped in this temple . It’s very crowded place & have much more rush on every Monday , Saawan & Shivratri days . You can not offer jal or any other Prashad to shivling directly . Lord Nandi facing shivling is also worshipped in this temple . Aarti time is 6:15 pm in the evening & after Aarti mandir is closed for darshan till next morning 5am . Photography is strictly prohibited inside the temple . Mandir is also closed in the day time also . There are several other small shivlings around the main temple & other Gods are also worshipped in this temple
