One of the most peaceful and divine places I have ever visited in my life. The vibe and the aora of this place is very compelling. Beautifully conserved and maintained the temple surrounded by the ruins is a very surreal experience.inside the temple you find the exact place where sidharth was born.people from all around world visit it and no photographs are allowed inside the main temple.As the birthday place of lord Buddha it is one of the most important places in Buddhism. One should visit this place if visiting Nepal.

First time I was visited Maya devi temple when I came this birth place of Buddha then I had felt peaceful and relax and I thought this is peaceful place where I came , I am so grateful to visit this temple at last I would like to say please come here and feel the peace and relax your mind and know about lord Buddha

Buddha was born in Nepal. The restoration of the birthplace, the Maya Devi Temple, at Lumbini is beautiful. The peaceful surroundings are astounding. You can feel the essence of Buddhism in the air. You can walk to Maya Devi Temple from Gate number 4 and 5. But if you want to go beyond, then you should hire a rickshaw, which will take about 1200 NRs.

Maya Devi Temple is an ancient Buddhist temple situated at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lumbini, Nepal and very close to the Indo–Nepal border. It is the main temple at Lumbini, a site traditionally considered the birthplace of Gautama Buddha. The temple stands adjacent to a sacred pool (known as puskarni) and a sacred garden. The archaeological remains at the site were previously dated to the third-century BCE brick buildings constructed by Ashoka. A sixth-century BCE timber shrine was discovered in 2013.

In November 2013, an international team of archaeologists digging under the temple discovered the remains of an ancient tree shrine dated before 550 BCE. The researchers speculated that the site is the earliest evidence of Buddhist structures and the first archaeological evidence of Gautama Buddha's life. The excavation was headed by Robin Coningham of Durham University, UK, and Kosh Prasad Acharya of the Pashupati Area Development Trust, Nepal. According to Coningham, the shrine is "the earliest Buddhist shrine in the world." The speculations of the researchers were widely reported in international press, to the dismay of the rest of the scientific community, who mostly have disputed the conclusions of the researchers. Julia Shaw, a lecturer in South Asian archaeology at University College London, cautioned that the shrine may represent pre-Buddhist tree worship, and that further research is needed. The conclusions drawn by the researchers were also heavily criticized by Buddhist scholar Richard Gombrich.

A very peaceful and spiritual place to visit.

Birthplace of Lord Buddha . Well maintained. But I didnt like the fact that they demolished the centuries old Mayadevi temple to built the new one. Also the pipal tree was cut.

You can sense peace once you enter into the perimeter. Ancient rumble, pond, trees, ashoka pillar and prayer flag all keep on adding to inner peace you will experience. At least you should visit once in your lifetime. Everyone irrespective of religious backgrounds are welcome, a true religion and spreading peace inside all of us. Blessed to visit on buddha purnima.
