The international airport is not yet in operations. Still using the earlier domestic airport. The new airport is said to be ready but issue to land from south face is an issue with Indian authority, which should have been dealt in advance to construction. Hopefully it's not like bullying from big brother. Fingers cross for near future.

The Gautam Buddha Airport located in Bhairahawa will be the second international airport in the country to relief pressure currently sustained by the congested Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).[3]The contract to upgrade the airport were awarded to chinese company North-west in October 2014, [4] to complete the project by end of 2017,[5] but it is certain to be pushed back to early 2019 due to the earthquake and the Indian blockade for almost six months. [3]

The airport resides at an elevation of 358 feet (109 m) above mean sea level. It has one runwaydesignated 10/28 with an asphalt surface measuring 1,510 by 34 metres (4,954 ft × 112 ft)[1] and currently connecting only domestic routes.

UpgradeEdit

The Airport is currently being upgraded into a regional international airport, being Nepal's second international airport. The construction work is expected to be finished in the beginning of 2018. It is planned to have a 3,000-m runway and have six international parking bays. The project will be financed by a loan and grant aid of $42.96 million and $12.75 million, respectively, from the Asian Development Bank [6]

This brand new airport will definitely augment growth in the economy in places near Siddharthanagar. Full-fledge operation of airport must be done as soon as possible. Currently, this airport serves only one international flight a week from Malaysia.
