We spent a week here in the summer, as the last house of the museum is a vacation rental. It's a very cozy place.

A very friendly museum that gives visitors insight into the lives of sailors of the previous eras. Nicely arranged buildings, art, and artifacts. Worth a stop!

Very sweet little village. It shows an interesting history of people of this village at one point in time and their tragedy. Very nice to visit!

So beautiful and well kept, had a lovely seaside hike, picking up shells, and visiting with sheep. Sat and had a picnic on the village side of the dyke, sow the memorial to the Freisen fishermen. Very moving. Walked through the village. Definitely a highlight of our visit to the Freisen Provence.

Klaske’s juwelen prachtig.
Ook hele mooie scherps modellen.
Uitleg door de beheerders prima. Zelfs over de “radio zender Paesens-Moddergat” …

About Moddergat
Village in the NetherlandsModdergat is a fishing village in Noardeast-Fryslân in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 221 in January 2017. Before 2019, the village was part of the Dongeradeel municipality. The name of the village means 'mud hole' in Dutch and in West Frisian. Moddergat is twinned with Peazens, and they are often referred to as "Peazens-Moddergat". In 1883, 17 of the 22 ships of Moddergat were lost at sea during a storm killing 83 fishermen. In 1958, a monument was placed on the sea dike in their honour. In 2004, NCRV television organized a competition for most beautiful place in the Netherlands. Moddergat came in second after Weerribben-Wieden National Park. source
