This is truly an historical place. A promise which a business man gave to the lady of this city Veere. Clean drinking water, for the people but also for the product wool.

From this position you can also see some houses.

Een unieke, historische herinnering aan de tijd - zo'n 500 jaar geleden - dat Veere een belangrijke overslagplaats was voor Schotse wol. Hier werd het regenwater opgevangen dat van het dak van de nabijgelegen Grote Kerk kwam. Dat water werd o.a. gebruikt om wol te wassen. Niet in gebruik.

Superbe structure tres bien restaurée. Je n'ai pas vu de panneau précisant les fonctions de cette citerne. A priori elle collectait les eaux de pluie de l 'église (à proximité) pour laver les laines d'Ecosse débarquées au port.

Dit was niet de Cisterne maar de MARIA TER SNEEUW KERK(ook altijd de. Grote kerk genoemd)
Mijn excuses over mijn bovengenoemde uitspraak het is inderdaad de cisterne waar de wol werd gewassen. Maar de ķerk klopt.
Wist u dat er gratis parkeren bestaat in Veere??
