So cool! Really interesting as well as a beautiful walk through the woods. A fun, enriching experience, perfect for all ages. Kids would find it endlessly entertaining.

Has many scale models of water works around the world. Plus it has beautiful paths. I don't think it will be good to go here if it's wet, but otherwise it's a really nice walk in the woods.

The 'waterloop bos' is a forest full of hydraulic models once used to study the behavior of water. It is a National monument where hundreds of studies have been conducted. You will find remnants of the research into the Delta Works, but also of water works for exotic places such as the port of Lagos.

The forest is freely accessible from sunrise to sunset. Marked walking routes lead you past the models of waterworks that lie like ruins in the forest.

The old waterways are still intact and often well maintained, but here and there nature has been given free rein.

The forest is easily accessible, also for people with walking difficulties. Beautiful mushrooms can be admired along the paths in autumn.

The forest offers unique and beautiful images for photographers to capture throughout the seasons.

The Pavilion Het ProefLab // is open on:
Monday to Thursday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM for coffee and lunch.
Friday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM for coffee, lunch and dinner.

Free walking on roads and paths, suitable for wheelchair
- There are 2 barrier-free routes (1.8 and 2.5 km)
- Near Kraggenburg is an adapted fishing pier

Otherworldly little place, like something out of Morrowind. Rows of cement slabs arranged in strange patterns. Great place to visit while checking out the sluis models in the forest nearby, and there's a nice restaurant beside it for lunch

About Vollenhove
City in the Netherlands

Vollenhove is a city in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality of Steenwijkerland, southwest of Steenwijk. Until the Noordoostpolder was drained, it was located on the coast of the Zuiderzee. Vollenhove received city rights in 1354. Later it was the main city in this region, that was formerly called Land van Vollenhove. Vollenhove was the summer residence of the bishop of Utrecht, the ruler of these parts. He lived in the castle Toutenburg, of which only some small ruins are left now. To be near their lord, quite some nobility moved to Vollenhove. They built their estates in the town, which was unique. Therefore, Vollenhove was called the city of palaces. Like Blokzijl, peat transport to Holland by ship caused the small city to flourish during the 17th century. Vollenhove was a separate municipality until 1973, when it became a part of Brederwiede. Between 1818 and 1942, the municipality was divided into two parts, Stad Vollenhove and Ambt Vollenhove. source
