Van der Valk Hotel Apeldoorn - De Cantharel

Beautiful hotel. Had a quick stop over at this hotel on way to Ferry. Arrived late in the evening and staff were more than accomodating to organise food for us. The breakfast the next morning was beautiful. A large selection of food to suit all requirements. Great parking at hotel also.

location was fantastic , next to forest, we had ravioli , it was delucious. This is really a good Van der Valk.

We stayed here one night and it was a great experience! Friendly staff, good restaurants and such a beautiful environment.

For a reason they don't accept reservations for the buffet (or "live cooking"). We tried on a Saturday afternoon and no luck. We went on a Friday afternoon (just before dinner time) and we found a table. We were greeted by the waiter, he asked for our drinks and asked us if we know how the system works (like all you can eat style). It is quite diverse, with salad, soup, fish, warm food, grill (live cooking), dessert, and coffee sections. We were really pleased by the variety of food and were happy that we had food before it was full of people (specially queueing in the live cooking). It is a little more expensive than having a la carte, but worth once in a while.

This is a very very good van der Valk hotel. Excellent service, comfortable rooms and the best van der Valk (and I had a few) breakfasts I had, ever. It is situated just near the highway and set up in a very spacious way. It was one of the most appealing looking hotel buildings of the chain I had seen so far. Been there over November and December 2021. Christmas decorations made it look very attractive. One major plus was the fact the building is 'only' 3 stories high, but due to the ground floor sizes, it is quite big. The walking distance to your room could be a bit more of course. But I liked this way of architecture as compared to the taller ones. Wi-Fi was good, Gym/Fitness is spacious, nice view of the inner garden and good quality equipment. The indoor swimming pool also present. Special and very special note for breakfast. It is the most and biggest buffet I have seen so far from them (compared to the seating/hotel size). I won't even go into naming it all, but most positive from my end was the organic and local foods they have. That is really outstanding. Live Cooking and everything there. Very fresh, very good. Again, this is one of my favorites. I always come in late and have to leave early, but every stay was excellent. Will for sure return here, most important is the sleeping quality. Low noise rooms and good beds. Minor remark on the pillows, they are quite 'high' and big, so if you aren't used to that it could result in cramps possibly. But again, all full stars for this place. Well earned

The dinner was great, the season menu was really good. Also the wine we had tasted very nice. The lady serving the wine and coming to the table often was also happy, you could see that she is enjoying her job, which made the evening also very pleasant. I will go here for dinner more often, definitely.

Loved this hotel. Very smart and nice rooms, slightly corporate decor but nicely dorm and big size room. The restaurant was very nice for take away because of covid. All the staff were helpful and pleasant to deal with. There are many nice walks and the reserve is 15mins away by car. Only issue was the beds are just OK, not super comfy. Would definitely go back once the spa and pool open.

The staff, the facilities, the restaurant, all great. The swimming pool with outdoor sauna was amazing. Strongly recommend 5 stars hotel ❤

I only used the restaurant, but it was a nice experience. This is of course again a standard van der Valk hotel, but they really are working on themselves.
The staff was very helpful and friendly. They even make time to make a short conversation with the guests.
The food was good. I had the Beyond burger. My first one. It was not as good as a good juicy beef burger, but defenately it was good. It was served with French fries a small salad and some typical Dutch Apple compote. This was a good deal for only 14,50€.
There is free strong Wi-Fi available.
The hotel itself looks good. Maybe I try it next time.

Main and desserts are amazing. We totally enjoyed the lamb stew, gambas, chicken for mains plus chocolate mousse and profiteroles were to die for !!!!

The reception area was beautiful with an easy c heck in experience with restaurant reservations being taken at check in to help with ease and convenience.

Food in the restaurant was beautifully presented with attention to detail and the breakfast selection was outstanding.

I'm from Apeldoorn myself and went to The Chantarel on the 25th of December for both Christmas as my father's birthday. We had a table reserved at 19.45. We stood in line on time and were receiced pretty warmly, it looked very nice on first eye, did not seem too busy or hectic and a small band was playing calm Christmas tunes. After a short time we were guided to our table for 9. We were seated right after the entrance and I was worried that would make a ruckous but because the management was very good, it was actually pretty comfortable. We were "served" a walking-buffet. Beforehand we got a little bit of soup which was actually really well flavoured. The food on the buffet was amazing but a little much on the fish-side. You won't hear me complain but it was definitely notable. If I would've liked to see anything different it'd be that there weren't a lot of warm dishes available. Desert was also in a walking-buffet style and it was heavenly. Desert can make or break the experience for me since it is the last impression of the food you take home and this definitely made it. It was sweet, sour, bitter, anything you could possibly want and you could pick whatever you like. My only complaint here is to myself that I couldn't eat more. During dinner the band strolled through the restaurant and sarinated people at their tables. They weren't pushy and took requests. Once they came at our table, we requested they sang something different than all the Christmas songs they had been singing, we asked for a birthday song. They improviced magnificently and the whole restaurant sang along. It was so much fun. The whole experience was very pleasent and most definitely recommendable! If graded: 10/10 for any and all subjects.

My favourite hotel in the Netherlands. Stayed there on more that one occation and was always extremely satisfied with it. Moreover the food is delicious no matter what you order.
Extra star for their famous apple compote.

Amazing hotel in many aspects , the facilities / surroundings / location / breakfast are just great, the value for money is one of the best I had. There are also many options for hike / bike / hourse riding and more, everything is in the hotel. I will definitely come back again with my family

This hotel is amazing and quite affordable for what you get. You have that luxe countryside style, lots of nature and a relaxing spa. I loved the pool (although it was on the cooler side, I hope they make it warmer so it can be more enjoyable), it was fun to have an outdoor pool too. And the horses!

The surrounding areas are perfect for cycling, hiking or horse riding.

The only thing missing is a playground for children, that'd be great for families

Now, the "bad" part. We forgot to make an reservation for dinner so the only restaurant available was the buffet area, unfortunately it wasn't good. The pasta bolognese was a bit like something you'd get on an airplane and the food in general wasn't tasty. The desserts were fine though. It's quite overpriced for what you get. To make things worse they overcharged us by mistake and we had to pay 17 euro more but in the end they fixed it and we got our money back. Service was slow but they try to be friendly so props to them because it was really busy there. The buffet restaurant gets a 3/10. Next time we will try Huisje James! Although you can always go to Apeldoorn for food as it's just some minutes away by car/bus (in the centre of Apeldoorn I can recommend "Green Leaf").

Is it easy to reach? yes, and you can also reach it by public transport as there's a stop in front of the hotel. The bus ride from Apeldoorn (the city centre or Central Station) is around 15-20 min.

Pet friendly? Yes

I hope I can go back soon as I found it quite relaxing and enjoyable.

Quiet. Very good location, we used it while hiking the Veluwe. The dinner buffet offers great quality food for just 20 eur. Breakfast is also very, very good. The staff is friendly and helpful. I know I will visit again.

Wonderful hotel set in a forest surrounding. I actually only visited this hotel because my roadbike had a flat tyre. The place looks great, and the staff were incredibly professional and helpful. They organised a taxi for me, so I could get home. Really great place. I really want to stay there one day.

Beautifull surroundings! Can hike and (rent)bike in surroundings. Peacefull and luxurious hotel/rooms. Friendly and helpfull staff. Has fitness room, sauna and bistro/restaurant. Fantastic breakfast!
