My second visit here.

Pengkalan Bujang was an entrepot after the decline of Sungai Batu, which had been in existence between 500-800 years before that, due to the drop in sea levels. Pengkalan Bujang had existed before it came under Buddhist Srivijaya rule in the 7th century AD, flourished between the 9th century AD and 14th century AD, came under the Chola influence in 11th century AD, and declined after its importance was taken over by Melaka.

There are four artefacts co-located at the site. A Hindu Chandi, two Buddhist Chandi, and one which its religious affiliation has not been identified.

Compared to Sungai Batu, I love this place better. There is a viewing area on the northern side of the site where you can see the vast expanse of the paddy area with the majestic Gunung Jerai in the background. This vast expanse was once the ancient sea, all the way to the foot of the mountain.

There is very clean toilet facility here. The workers are always there to look after the place, and the security guards are very helpful. There is free but somewhat limited parking near the entrance. If you are a photographer, try coming here at around 4pm until closing. Especially when the rice fields have turned almost golden.

Learned a bit of history regarding the pre modern era community in Lembah Bujang with a view of Gunung Jerai.

Its a historic artifact place. Build during the times of Hindu Kingdom in Asia. Located at Kampung Pengkalan Bujang. These monuments or known as candi in local term, may once upon a time become the functional structure, or graveyard or temple during the old kingdom era.

This archeological site is of little known to the public. We found this small yet significant historic site by accident when travel through Tanjung Dawai.
The admission is free.
Three ruined candi structures are preserved with roof over them.
The whole site is surrounded with 100 years old trees. Very windy and shady.
Outside of the perimeter of the site is primarily padi fields. Lovely sight!
At the back of the site there’s a observatory platform where you can view Jerai hill in full view but the entrance is locked!

"Candi" (pronounced "chandi") is a word used in Indonesian and Malay to refer to a temple or shrine, often used in reference to ancient Hindu or Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia.
