Didn't visit the museum but went for a 4km hike nearby instead. Interesting view with waterfalls and natural habitat surrounding the area.

The parking area is large with good facilities in the premise. Washrooms are clean, prayer room as well. Will visit the museum in the future.

The Ancient Kingdom of Bujang Valley
Bujang Valley is tge biggest ancient Archaeological area in Malaysia. The ancient ruins found in Bujang Valley area date back to 110 AD, making it the oldest man made structure ever found in Southeast Asia. This makes Bujang Valley the first ancient civilization in Southeast Asia, long preceding Borobudur (Indonesia) and Angkor Wat (Cambodia).

Candi Batu Pahat
The biggest and most significant temple in Bujang Valley is Candi Bukit Batu Pahat. It is believed to have been built during the 110 AD. Among the ruins found here is a temple dedicated to the Hindu god, Lord Siva. The temple is believed to be built of granite and wood and has 66 round bases where the wooden poles used to be.

A very nice museum to get to know the once powerful Kedah Tua empire. The gallery was informative and has lots of artifacts. Better not to come during hot sunny days as the area with the candi replicas is not shaded. Facilities were clean and well maintained.

Museum about Kedah Tua history, there are 2 indoor gallery and outdoor stucture. One of the indoor gallery was closed for upgrade during visit. The visited gallery was good, very informative and details about history of Kedah Tua. One the outdoor stureture, they are excavated and relocated from the Bujang Valley area.

The outdoor stureture are lack of information, you wouldn't know what you are looking at, and there is not much outdoor stureture. Probably about 4-5.

Recommend visit time 30-60mins at museum

Recommend visit this and followed by take a drive (within 20min) to the Actual Bujang valley site. (Google Lembah Bujang in Google Map)
There are several, pick the major one will do, allocate 30mins is enough.

A remnant and reminder of the wonder of that was Ancient Kedah, an evidence to testify that Kedah was one of the oldest and still surviving kingdom and state in the Peninsular. The place has two galleries (which is currently closed for renovation probably till march 2022).
There are temple sites (candi) all over the slope of the mountain.
It is very nice place with all the trees and plants, very breezy and windy almost all the time. Suggestion, try come early or late afternoon during the dry/hot season, it can get really hot and sunny during the noon.

July 2023

Please come to visit this place for history that is not mentioned in Malaysia History Education books.

Unfortunately, no details on when, who and how long the works are done on this site.

30mins, that is all required to walk and view the structure built by Indian Trades.

I recommend an simple and interesting book, called

Bujang Valley, The Wonder that was Ancient Kedah, by V.Nadarajan.

Highly recommended. A good place to kill 1-2 hours of your family time in Sungai Petani.

Museum is located next to a waterfall. So you can enjoy both nature and educational tours.

The waterfall itself is a living museum. You can see ancient rock cuts and old markings on the waterfall surface.

You can also picnic and stroll along the river.

There are 3 exhibition galleries in the museum i.e. ancient Indian, ancient trade and outdoor exhibits. The Indian gallery is currently closed for renovation.

The ancient trade gallery has just been refurbished. Its clean, modern, fully air-conditioned and has approximately 100 displays.

An uphill walk is required to see the outdoor exhibits. It starts with the stone works exhibits of granite base, sugar cane grinder and pillars and finally the actual ruins of several old temples found in Kedah.

Access to this museum is free. Just drive through the main gate and park your car in the visitor's parking. Then proceed to the waterfall or gallery. Just register your name at the entrance of the gallery.

The museum has clean toilets and prayer room. It is near to the parking lot. Please bear that there's no shop or vending machine in the museum. Please bring your own water, wear good walking shoes, hat and sun glasses.

Tips: We tied our visit with a trip to Tanjung Dawai pier. Its not that far. You can buy local snacks, have lunch or take a boat ride to Pantai Merdeka. Cost is about RM100 for 1 boat per trip. Boat can fit at least 12 persons. Can share with other passengers. But, the timing of the boat is unreliable.

Extremely happy to finally get a chance to visit this site after studying it in Sejarah. The place is divided to indoor and outdoor exhibition. Advisable to go to the outdoor one 1st so that can enjoy aircond in the indoor gallery after walking under the scorching sun.

There is a waterfall next to the parking lot, the water is super cold! Walk for a few min (someone there said around 15min) and there will be another waterfall in the jungle.

There are many outdoor sites like Candi Lembah Bujang, Candi Pendiat, Candi Bukit Batu Pahat and other tools used during historic times.

We then walked to Gallery II where more artifacts and historical stories are exhibited. What is great here is there is no admission fees.

Historic place and very valuable to the Malaysian. Admission is free. Visitors can picnic and bath in the nearby river but under their own responsibility. No guards on weekends. Clean and provided parking for visitors. No food and souvenir shops are available.

It’s very nice and peaceful here. It’s free and well maintained. The Museum is very informative and very focus on the topic. Interesting. Maybe can have a shop selling high quality souvenirs to boost popularity.

Negative point: they used the leaf blower instead of the the rake to pile up the leaf. This really disturb the nature. There are not so many leaf but they are 3 people doing it and a few more sitting under the shade.

If you love archaeology, it is a great place for you as I find Malaysia has very little Archaeological attraction. And know what, it is FREE. Free entrance and free parking. You may also enjoy the breeze there if you are not interested on archaeology.

The experience you will have here are the most valuable and educational part. It is not normal muzium but it also have archeological sites where we can go and experience the 1000 years old stuctures.
It also said to be one of the earliest port in North Malaya. A must visit place for every Malaysian. Educational and recreational
