Captain Speedy's house

I have been advised by the security guard at the Ngah Ibrahim museum to go to this building. Luckily I followed since this is another building within the historical complex, but without any sign or direction.

Captain Speedy or Tristram Charles Sawyer Speedy was appointed as the first Assistance Resident when the Resident System was introduced in Perak.

He who was also the Governor of Larut, had working stints in Abyssinia and in the Indian military force. In 1872, he became the Penang Police Assistance Superintendent. He also had held a Commander post and helped formed Menteri Ngah Ibrahim's police force to control the situation in Larut but resigned in July 1873.

Captain Speedy Resident was built in 1873 next to Nah Ibrahim's house as a token of appreciation for helping Menteri Che Nah Ibrahim resolving the war in Larut.

The resident is now open for public as an extension to the Kota Ngah Ibrahim museum complex.
