A very good place to bring your family for a short visit. Educational because you can learn about the history of Larut Matang. I learned that ones must obtain knowledge in order to manage their own resources, otherwise people with bad attentions will come and start to manipulate you.

This is a very nice museum. Personally think it is better and more informative compared to Perak Museum. Free admission. You can take public bus blue bus No 77 from Taiping to here. Plan to visit this museum if you are on your way to Kuala Sepetang. 👍👍👍

A small museum with original wall. Two wells at both end of building. Climb up the stair at the guard post to take a good photos of the building. The guard inside the building is very friendly. Artifacts is limited inside the museum. It is free entry.

Love it. Simple but a very good place to get information about Tengku Ngah Ibrahim and the history from the Japanese and British era other than from the text book. The entrance is free, parking spaces are spacious but must park outside the gate. The museum do organise sleep over at the museum and opens to all school children. A very interesting and infomation pack activity.

Ngah Ibrahim's house has had various uses in the past. It was really interesting going through its history but the explanation of what happened to him in the end & why his grave is beside the house were missing.
We found the answer at a neighbouring house - his guards' house which is a few steps away, just opened for public - not even a year yet.
Take a little time to sit through the video by Majalah 3, then you could appreciate the history & effort related to Menteri Kanan Ngah Ibrahim.

This is a very nice place to learn not only Matang’s history but also Japanese Occupation Era. There is a very valuable monument in the garden which had been established by Japanese Army, 戦跡記念碑. It would be really much more appreciated if there is any explanation in English the reason why this monument is set here. Because the monument says it is put at the Thai-Malaysia border in 1942. I would like to know how this monument had been removed from the Thai border to Matang Museum.

A wonderful little museum, with well written item descriptions and information on the local history in both Bahasa Malaysia and English. Learnt about Ngah Ibrahim, the Ghee Hin and the Hai San Chinese gangs in their 3 wars known as the Larut Wars. Worth spending some time here.

Kota Ngah Ibrahim (Ngah Ibrahim's fort) is also known as Matang Museum. We were unaware of this place until we found it on the net. The location is a bit away from any other interesting historical places in Perak but it was not difficult to find. Situated in Matang about 40-min drive from Ipoh, this site is well taken care of. Ngah Ibrahim was an aristrocat and a wealthy man who played an important role in tin mining management in Matang back in 1870s. He built his mansion in the centre of the fort. In the old days, there was a big river next to his fort but the river has become a small stream over the years. The museum keeps old artifacts related to the mining activities and other historical events in Matang and Taiping including the Japanese occupation in the districts and the history of two Chinese migrant kongsi, Ghee Hin and Hai San. According to the keeper, this museum is a continuation story from Pasir Salak Historical Complex - which we think the fort has much more to offer as compared to the one in Pasir Salak. Another interesting fact about the area is that mine ore was found by an elephant named Larut where the place got its name from. The keeper is well versed about the history of the fort and he believes much more can be offered if an archeological efforts can be put forward.
Despite its location and few visitations received, this fort gave us a pleasant surprise with its history narration, well-kept artifacts and a dedicated keeper. Free entry.
