BM Yam Rice Kopitiam

This is my first choice for yam rice. Friendly & swift service and usually fully pack on weekends. Taste and generous big quantity portion for the price. Highly recommended for family that loves pork.

First time visiting this place. Dropped by since I was in the neighbourhood. Do order as you enter as the kopitiam does get crowded quite fast. I was lucky there was no wait and food was served very swiftly.

This place is famous for their fluffy yam rice (“or pui”) served with a mix bowl of meat balls, pork belly, and some pork spare parts. Love their appetising salted vegetable soup, and pssst... the soup can be topped up for free.

For yam rice, this is my first choice. Been here many time. Never disappointed. Always a yummy treat. Friendly n fast service. Well, may need patient when it is fully pack. You will get your foods served piping hot. Taste and sizable quantity. I am happy.

Highly recommended place to try out their yam rice. The rice is tasty, and the soup is the best. You can choose to have meat innards or not for the soup serving, and you can even refill the soup free of charge (without extra meats and innards, of course, only the soup). The price is affordable as well, so give it a try.

Michelin rated for the year 2023 and 2024. Love the Braised Eggs and Braised Taukua.

If you’re ever in the area, and a fan of yam rice, this restaurant is highly recommended. Gets every busy on weekends and be prepared to wait for a table.

Make sure to get all your orders in at one go as the wait is relatively long and getting the attention of restaurant staff is a challenge as they are extremely busy.

Both the yam rice and the accompanying soup with meatballs and spare parts are very tasty. Very decently priced. Each bowl of yam rice is priced at only RM1.50.

Be prepared to eat and leave as there will be many other patrons waiting for a table. Restaurant can get crammed and stuffy due to the sheer volume of people in it.

If you're at Bukit Mertajam and hunting food like me, you should try this famous yam rice. This is our first time trying a yam rice. It comes with pork soup. You can choose pork soup with meat ball or pork soup mixed with all the pork innards and salted vege.

We were recommended the soup mix with all pork innards. And it was the best. The sourness and saltiness of the soup really compliment the sticky yam rice. There are other side dishes like pork knuckles, but we didn't order. Maybe next trip.

However, there was no coffee available at this shop. They only have the 3 in 1 coffee.

Since we came on weekdays, the shop has plenty of tables.

Some serious authentic bizarre foods there. Come here if you love braised porks and pig organs.

Hands down THE BEST yam rice I've ever ever everrrr had! Yam rice is so flavourful and had just the right amount of dried shrimp. The pork ball and pork slices complement very very well with the yam rice. Not to mention the soup is unlimited refill! The soup is 咸菜汤, it was so addictive that you can't stop craving for more! We initially only had one bowl of yam rice for the each of us, but after having our first bowl, it was too good and we had to order another bowl of yam rice to share 😅

The price is crazy cheap! 3 bowls of yam rice with a big bowl of pork slices, pork meatballs, dark soy sauce egg, unlimited refill of soup and drinks only cost 20 bucks! You definitely CANNOT get this price at KL.

It's such a pity that this amazing shop is 3 to 4 hours away from us, if this is around my area, I'd be sure to visit them at least once a month!

PSA : Turn right just immediately just before reaching the restaurant. There's a limited area to park.
Also don't be disheartened if you find the main shop full. Walk to the back, there's a door to go into the adjoining building where there's even more tables to sit at.
Finally, ordering needs to be done self service at the entrance. Don't wait for anyone to come at your table to get your orders

As for their food, I simply love the soup. Light and tasty, the superb balance of salt and sourness is simply divine. You choose your own combination for the content but I decided on everything. Including offals. I must say that their meat and offal is fresh. And cooked perfectly. That includes their braised egg and tofu. Tasty gravy and delicious tofu. What surprised me was actually their sambal tumis. Heavy on prawn taste and perfectly spiced, simply a great condiment for the meat.

As for the environment, it's a little uncomfortable. Hot and humid. It's something that needs to get used to. The decor is very old style. Simple and minimum. However, it's surprisingly much cleaner than I expected.

If there's anything they should improve, it's their drinks. I know that this is supposed to be a yam rice review but drinks do play an integral part of a meal. Their drinks are unacceptably watery and that's before the ice in it melted and diluted it even more.

But having said all that, just on the basis of the yam rice and the classical old style coffee shop in the hot tropical heat, this is definitely a nostalgic throwback to meals that I used to enjoy decades ago.

I was recommended by Penang Foodie so when in the area a visit is paid. They are obviously famous for their Yam Rice. I personally not a big fan of Yam but their Yam Rice was delicious and flavourful. Highly recommended. Their boiled egg, tofu and pig trotters in master stock were good. Also very enjoyed their pig offal soup. Price was reasonable, I will return in the future.

The food was good without porky taste, my friend try with intestine according to them that was clean and fresh

The hero was the yam rice and that is so good… we can actually have a small cut of yam with the rice

The soup a little peppery and salty (with some salted vegetable) this is become much appetising, provide sambal with black sauce and that good to go with the dish & rice. Beware they are a little spicy

We ordered braised tofu & egg and trotter as well… trotter braised till soft, tasty & smooth to eat, it’s almost slurp to eat (full of collagen) as for fatty part if you can…

Fast service, come in order and get a seats within 10min the food is served. Must try if you are Yam lover

The 1st yam rice in BM, personally, I think is a must try in BM. Portion is not very generous, but the taste worth your visit. You can choose what to put in the soup. They allowed to add soup after that.

Solid yam rice in 大三脚. One of the best I have tasted. The side dishes like meat ball soup and pig blood also not bad. Very fulfilling meal. Recommended.
