Temazcal Tradicional

Had a great time! The hostess was very nice and also spoke some English. The place was clean, comfortable and offered privacy. We were able to take turns with the Temazcal and watching the small child which was part of our group. The waiting area is very child friendly and even has some toys.

Marcela and the rest of the staff were great. My husband and I enjoyed the Temazcal and anti-stress massage and my kids (20, 17 and 16) experienced the feet ionization and anti-stress massage. We all had a wonderful afternoon. The place is very clean. I would go back next time I am in Oaxaca.

My two friends and I were visiting from Toronto, Canada and were looking for a more traditional and authentic Temezcal experience. We most certainly got that with Temezcal Tradicional!

When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner. After the initial greeting, we were brought into the change room to take off our clothes and put on white robes around us in preparation for the ceremony. The owner had an English speaking female shaman named Rosia, come to take us through the ceremony.

One by one we went through an initial cleansing process before going into the main chamber. Once we were all in, we went through a series of cleansing and healing rituals using indigenous music, steam, chanting, dancing, wet herbs and massing movements that we mainly performed on ourselves.

Rosia was very communicative and always made sure we were comfortable and that we had the option of leaving the chamber at any time if we were too warm or overwhelmed. Warm tea and water were provided as we were in the chamber as well as aloe vera that we used to massage in our skin. Our total time in the chamber was around 45 mins to 1 hour.

Once we were finished, we were led to the change room where we took a pretty cold shower to rinse off. We then were given some tea and rested for a few minutes in the main living room. Then one by one we were brought into the dark massage room for a 1 hour massage which was very nice.

We wrapped everything up by getting dressed and the owner called us a taxi. She was very lovely and we had a conversation in broken English and Spanish using Google Translator.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and HIGHLY recommend this Temezcal experience for anyone looking for something that is less touristy and more authentic. :)

A big plus for the location being outside of the touristic areas, which made this experience even more authentic and for our really sweet host who gave us a little background around the ritual and the Temazcal.

Me and my girlfriend were looking for a more authentic and traditional temazcal while in Oaxaca. And we got really lucky with this place, very authentic and traditional. We booked it for the Temazcal, massage and feet ionization treatment. Marcela received us and explained us everything very well, the process and the ancestral traditions. We loved the experience and we definitely recommend it. In the end Marcela got us taxi to go back to the center. Thank you Marcela and family!

A wonderful, relaxing and informative experience. Antioneta and her colleagues do a great job of both informing you of the relevance of the tamazcal traditions and making you feel comfortable and relaxed. Would highly recommend this experience and will be returning regularly.

An amazing experience! She’ll teach you the history of the temazcal and the symbolism, all in Spanish. You go through a cleaning ceremony before entering the temazcal. Water and tea are provided. There’s an option to do a massage and a foot ion cleanse in addition to the temazcal.

This temazcal is more than worth it. It’s a spa experience for a fraction of the price. Do yourself a favor and come here!!

Expect temazcal prices to be a little more around Oaxaca city as opposed to San José del Pacifico and areas further away.

I love this place. I went again today for the second time and I plan on going every 2 weeks or so. The infusion water used for the sauna is so nice. I feel spiritually rejuvenated after going here.

This place is such a gem!!!! It is authentic in every way - from the experience to Antoinetta! I speak little Spanish but was able to follow along. I am looking forward to returning to Oaxaca and to Antoinetta. I already feel a million times lighter in my soul.

An incredible, meticulous experience. We weren’t sure we were in the right place at first, but once we walked in, we were welcomed into a spiritual oasis, full of kindness and attentive care. This is a truly authentic temazcal experience, away from any remnants of touristic posturing. We’ll never forget the beautiful moments shared here.

I have the opportunity for the first time to try the famous temazcal bath and I did it here at temazcal tradicional and I can say that it was the best! I really love it! Mrs. Bautista explained to me the origens and the benefits of temazcal, the plants they use fir the infusion water. I can only say this was an amazing experience if you are thinking on taking the temazcal I highly recommend "Temazcal Tradicional" very close location and reasonable prices. Also Martita gave a nice massage to my husband while I was doing the temazcal (he has high blood pressure) so he decided to have a massage instead. We had a wonderful experience.
