Great place to visit in the mountains overlooking Oaxaca City. Definitely go early - we left Oaxaca on a 9:30 bus and were able to pull right up and walk right in. When we left around 1pm, cars were parked on the street for what seemed like a mile down the road and people had to walk to gain entry. Wear a hat and bring water. There is a restaurant there which has availability when it isn't packed. Also recommend reading about it before you go for some context. Really cool views and interesting history!

i recommend you show up early, and before noon, otherwise the sun and the heat will make it impossible to enjoy your tour of the entire site. a big upside as well is there’s less tourists early in the morning so you can take better photos. this is a MUST visit if you’re in Oaxaca, there’s a green bus in centro that takes you round trip for $90 pesos per person, cheapest and most convenient way to get to the site.

beautifully preserved, lots of restoration work underway, an amazing legacy for pre colonial era, a true relic of the Zapotec people. i was extremely happy to be there, the $90 entry free was most definitely worth it.

I was positively surprised by this place. But I would recommend to go in the morning since it can be really sunny and hot. There are not to many shady places. Also, not all taxis go there, since that is apparently a place they are not allowed to stop. There is an official bus that apparently is more costly if you are 3+ people.

Gorgeous and expansive cultural site with so much to learn from and I recommend a guide so you can learn as much as possible from this amazing place. I recommend having lots of water and sunscreen as it does get hot. The altitude makes it difficult to breathe if doing intense walking, so make sure to take deep breaths!

Wow, what a terrific experience. The staff were the ghosts of ancestors that explained the importance of their ancestors and Día de Muertos. We were taken to tomb7 and tomb 105 (not opened) and burying rituals explained. A very unique experience. Thank you to all of the presenters.

Great archeological site to learn about the history of the indigenous peoples that lived in the heart of Oaxaca for thousands of years. Splendid views and scenery at the top of the pyramids. I would recommend going with a guide or tour with a group if it is your first time and you do not speak Spanish. If you speak Spanish or it is not your first time you could go without.

Amazing and mystical place! Absolutely incredible. You feel you’re in ancient times. Where did the Zapotec go?

Fantastic place to visit! Ruins in excellent condition! Easy to access from Oaxaca by taxi for a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend a tour guide, but not imperative. We got a tour guide outside of the ticket office for $700 for a group of 6 with mixed abilities of Spanish ranging from almost none to fluent. Our tour was exclusively in Spanish but was very clear and concise so that even with a little Spanish she was understandable. The ruins themselves are in amazing condition with some of the pyramids kept so that you can climb them and really get the feel of the ancient times. It’s a lovely place to visit but has very little shade and only the ticket office and museum’s amenities so do make sure to bring a hat, water and maybe some snacks!
