Comedor Istmeño Casa Juchitán

Read the reviews and just needed to try it. It was awesome. Istmeño is an indigenous group from southern Oaxaca state, and garnachas originated there.

One of the best ceviches we had so far! Great empanadas as well. Everything is freshly made and tastes heavenly. Definitely check it out!

Marylin the chihuahua is precious and loves head scratches. The food, tastes like grandma's cooking. The garnachas are a must. The cheesy empanadas are also yummy. Order the chicken dinner too, it's a winner. And the service is excellent. Feels as if you are at someone's house. Do not miss this spot for a late, cozy dinner.

Was craving Garnachas and asked a local bartender where I could find some late at night. They recommended I check this spot out. I was the only patron around 9pm on a Monday (which made me nervous, and made me think it was a “commission” deal) but nonetheless, I went for it hoping I wouldn’t regret it tomorrow.

It was absolutely delicious and I was totally fine the next day.

there’s no menu, and i’m not sure if they speak english (I’m a native spanish speaker) but they told me what they had on hand to make and i ordered just the one thing: Garnachas. they were being prepared with beef that night.

They were absolutely delicious. I was so happy to be eating them. They also gave me a ceviche tostada as a free amuse bouche which was lovely.

The garnachas are out out of this world! The tortillas were perfectly crispy and the carne de res was so tender and juicy. The family was incredibly hospitable and the chihuahua was the icing on the cake! Que rico es la comida aquí!

A must when in Oaxaca! Nereida (owner) is very friendly, hospitable, and kind. She will cook your meal on the spot right in front of you. The food served here is authentic, fresh and delicious. Super casual dining with a picturesque atmosphere. You MUST try the "garnachas " and "empanadas." Simply dIelicious!

Very very good garnachas. This place is super simple, but the garnachas are delicious!

This was suggested to us by our Airbnb host. We loved watching her prepare the food fresh for us from her limited daily menu. I recommend the ganachas. Everything she made took time and we patiently waited. There were no prices listed on the menu and were we surprised to see a $15 (USD) charge for the ceviche dish. That was more than any of the high end restaurants had charged us for the same dish with more ingredients added than hers. It was our fault for not asking first right?

Amazing flavourful food with fresh ingredients and a very sweet host. Do not go to a fancy restaurant, this is gourmet.

You can really see the craftsmanship through an open kitchen which creates an inclusive atmosphere! Food quality is on top of the game with fresh ingredients. Would definitely recommend to visit for a unique experience :).
