El Gallo Altanero

I’ve been to many of the ‘top bars’ in the North America, and this is the first one where I’ve thought oh wow this is deserving. There is a dining area, followed by a tall staircase that opens up into a small bar, some small tables, and then an open roof section where you can look down or up. The collection of cocktails with relative Mexican ingredients is small but meaningful. Pineapple, cinnamon, rice, jalapeño, habanero, coconut and more or charcoal throughout the cocktails. There is a DJ to set the mood, in the bartenders speak English very well.

Fantastic bar full of drink artisans that really know their craft! Not a bottle of Jose Cuervo in sight, instead you’ll find locally produced racilla, tequilas and mezcal in inventive cocktails. The food to snack on was pretty tasty as well, pork cheek tacos and mushroom aguachile was on special. Had to go early to get a spot at the bar, but it was worth it!

My new favorite bar in Guadalajara. Super cool. Very small. If you don't get there early you won't get a seat upstairs. Cocktails are amazing and made with love. Waitress recommended a cocktail that she created. Was so amazing. Really cool, small, super interesting place for amazing drinks and snacks.

A must. Cocktails are wonderful and complex. Ambiance is chill. Gets busy, but is worth the wait.

What a find! This is by far one of the best bars I have ever been to! Their selection of Agave spirits is on point! The music, service and location are a magical combination.
A must try if you are in GLD and looking to enjoy the bar-scene.
TIP: try the Tutsi Mezcal - its truely one of a kind - and very rare!

Absolutely incredible cocktails. Almost tried every drink on the menu they were all that good. Fantastic selection of Tequila, Mezcal and Raicilla.

El Gallo Altanero was one of our favorite bars while we were in Guadalajara it's a speak easy of sorts as it's located above another restaurant. The space is tiny probably enough room for 25 people. It's a gastropub of sorts we were very Happy with our service and drinks/food.

The most delicious cocktails I've ever had in the most dreamy setting I think I've ever spent time in.

This place gets hospitality better than anywhere else in Guadalajara. Great music, drinks, service, and a memorable location. Just wish the place was bigger

Great tequila bar on top of a coffee shop. It is dimly lit with a small bar overlooking the plazita with open air. Thwy had a great variety of tequilas and the atmosphere was chill. I would come back again for a low key noght or to get the party going.

Hip little bar above the coffee shop. Great drinks and ipas with adorable and kind waiters.

Is what I would say if I liked long waits, sub par drinks, excessively loud music, hard wooden seats, and being jammed into a small space with many people.

Cool place to visit, especially if you like a good tequila drink. Both Sofie and Alejandra are amazing.

Great tequila bar with a selection of very distinct bottles and good food. The staff is very friendly, and speaks English. The DJ that night was playing 80’s new wave, including a Tom Tom Club song (Wordy Rappinghood) I hadn’t heard before. I probably should have tipped them even more, but the math gets difficult after a few, and my Spanish isn’t so great.

Gorgeous speakeasy style bar located in the back and upper level behind a coffee shop. Great tequila selection of artisanal brands and excellent cocktails. Staff was beyond knowlegable and attentive! You can tell they love what they do.

The people who put this place together know what they're doing. You will find no commercial stuff here - only the best traditional and ancestral juices are served. The staff, cocktails, agave spirit selection, and music here are top tier. The food is really good too - I never regret grabbing a bite here.

Due to its nature the bar is small and doesn't do reservations so it gets harder to get in the later you arrive.

This is one of the hottest spots in town. Every day of the week this place gets a really good crowd. If you have to wait, they have an area with a small bar and food available. Space is limited on the top floor, so I would recommend getting there early. The bar is stocked with an array of Mexican spirits that are rare even for this part of Mexico. Super friendly and great staff all the way to the owners. Live music on Sunday, small band with a big sound. I just love this place altogether.
