La Occidental Cantina

What a great little place.. was over the road from our Airbnb. As an Australian living in the States it was like every old man’s bar in Melbourne before it was gentrified and most dive bars in the USA with somewhat less football (and there was still NFL).

Staff are great, food was great. Beer was, well, Mexican beer but let’s be honest if it is hot enough it is always good!

Great place, also has a giant rooftop bar up top but we never made it that far :)

Was staying across the street from this gem, when visiting. Loud, but that's how it's supposed to be. Was my watering hole, for a week. Great times, great food, and nice people working there. Thanks.

Old school cantina! Good drinks and they even bring snacks!!

Very basic traditional Cantina with an amazing atmosphere.
You go there for drinking and having a great time with friends.
Good selection of beer, Tequila and cocktails. The snacks are very nice as well.
A little bit loud but worth going there as the live music generates a very specific moods.
One thing is sure, I will be back again!

Wow! Totally unexpected great lunch. Much more than a local watering hole. Food is excellent. Had Marlin taquitos which were well seasoned and brought forward the mild flavor of marlin with a good blend of smoky chili and bracingly sharp limes kept the flavors in balance. Also had three huitaloche empenadas that perfectly combined the earthy and unique flavor of huitaloche with fresh corn and sour cheese along with a creamy fresh corn tortilla. It was all the things you want with a drink: salty, acidic, crunchy, creamy and filling. Aa great dish to pair with the big and strong drinks. Good welcoming and upbeat vibe. 100% recommendation to any traveler needing a few hours out of the sun.

The most amazing thing about this placeis the atmosphere and the music. There is classic old Mexican music qith a great armosphere and amazing service. My wife and I enjoy this place a lot

Great local cantina in downtown Guadalajara. The service was top notch with a full bar and the more drinks you order the more food they bring you. Food is free with drinks. We had a blast at this place. Lots of local flare.

One of the few traditional cantina that you can experience in downtown Guadalajara. This is like a regular pub with affordable drinks and beers with great bar snacks included while you still drinking here. The atmosphere is very traditional so you can find older people in the place, but also cantinas have become popular with younger crowds, meaning in a very inclusive place to everyone willing to grab a few drinks and snacks.

First night I had put in the city as was ill as soon as I had arrived. Ended up staying for hours drinking cazuelas and then listening to live music upstairs as well. Staff were great and patient with my Spanish

A good canteen near historic center of Guadalajara. Prices​ are accessible and they offer some snacks for free (It's a custom at canteens in México), potatoes with sauce are too hot.

The very best bar I have ever visited, after several continents, visited. The best! Lo mejor! Ichiban desu!
