Mercado Santa Tere

This is a great market. It is small and clean with many home made items from fresh cheese to pickled veggies. We ate breakfast at Cafe Elena in the north of the market and it was amazing. One of the best meals we had in the city. The women were very friendly and patient with our broken Spanish.

If I am anywhere in the vicinity of Mercado Santa Tere I will find time to get something to eat. There is great produce, great cheeses and a top notch food court.

While I love going to Mercado de Abastos, I feel like they are primarily geared for the wholesale customer. Mercado Santa Tere is your quintessential neighborhood Mexican Market. There is so much to explore and see that I always need to plan a little extra time.

This is the very popular Mercado de Santa Tere, please park and be ready to explore with no rush because there is SO MUCH to see here! Not only the food is delicious but the options are countless. Many locals come here to eat and shop. Stop by the fresh produce , the fresh cheese and cream shops, chiles and spices, etc. Its also a great idea to shop from the single vendors sitting on the entryways, usually campesinos or indigenous people who bring their fresh produce: cactus, fresh herbs, corn masa, tortillas, etc. This is a great true travelers experience. Surrounding areas are also a must see
