Totally worth the price. Make sure you get a good explanation from a guide or you will miss a lot.
The extra taxi/transportation is the local people. It's their heritage, so I don't blame them. We had a guided tour, but like everyone else still had to transfer to their transportation.

One of the most amazing experiences I've had in Mexico I cannot believe what a beautiful place and people that are there highly recommended Don't listen to the news but get a good guide and make sure to experience the happiness the culture the food the community and the beautiful people of Mexico in a place that is magical and untouched compared to some of the other places in the world ... Highly recommended

The murals on site is really rare and extremely beautiful, especially the left and the right one. The central one is slightly faded.

Wild! Remote arheologic site. Beautiful ruins on indigenous land.
No food allowed on site.

Fantastic, jawdropping, hairrising, thought provoking ant taking you back in time to Aztec (?) times or Maya times. Not sure exactly. Please feel free to correct me.

Visited this gem in 2001. The only other people there were a group of Vanderbilt students. There was no gate or ticket booth since literally the place was otherwise empty. Incredible ruins very well-preserved. Highly recommended.

Small but very nice. Worth to visit due to the last available Maya paintings

The visit and guide enjoyable, but what initially impacted and stood out to me is that we had to leave our original tour guide right outside their area, switch into a car owned and driven by a native tribe member that would then drive us 15 mins in, that is the only way to access their grounds is to be taken in their vehicles into their ruins. They close at 4:30pm and they seem extremely rushed once 4:15 hits, as if there was something important happening. Overall the Ruins were fun to see, and another one of the beauties of Chiapas.

Amazing murals. They have cleaned the murals so the colors are brilliant. Site is well organized. The Lacandon will insist in driving into the site using their vehicles. There are nice carved bowls, bark satchels and other local crafts on the way between the parking lot and site.

Small but beautiful ruins with rare well-preserved frescoes with nearby eco lodges and camping in the jungle. Waterfalls and swimming nearby. Loved it.

Be prepared to pay! Some folks from MX City warned us that the locals were charging around 400 pesos to visit Bonampak.
It works like this: they’ll flag you over at the intersection where you turn to drive to Bonampak from wherever you’re staying or from road 307. They’ll say it’s mandatory to take a taxi and that you can’t drive to Bonampak. The taxi we took was 350 pesos. He stopped at an unmarked, dilapidated ticket booth for us to get our tickets, which brought the cost to over 400 pesos.
Bonampak is beautiful, so it’s not the end of the world. I’m all for pushing back a bit and feeling the situation out, but this didn’t seem to be one where there is any room to push. It’s their jungle and they can make the rules to an extent. It was a bit frustrating to have to pay the extra tax to go see Bonampak, but the dude ripped down that road like a pro and got us there in half the time I would have taken. There’s the bright side I suppose. And it’s not the end of the world to be kicking some more money into the Lacanja community.
Okay, but the murals though. Those alone are worth it. The guys who monitor them were late opening the doors to the mural part (surprise), so we were extremely relieved when they showed up. They’re in remarkable shape the the pictures truly don’t do them justice.

The best. Murals well preserved in an appropriate setting. Worth a trip on the crocodile-infested river.
