La Matatena Pizzeria

Amazing restaurant in a nice courtyard in the city center. Attentive and knowledgeable staff about celiac disease. Gluten-free pizza, lasagna and even banana muffins for dessert. Two different types of gluten free beer. I went two nights to have the lasagna bolognese, the best I've eaten since I was diagnosed. Not to be missed if you are in Oaxaca.

Great pizza and a nice break from Mexican food. Thin crust, and they will let you do half & half on the pizza choice. Craft cola and banana muffin were also good.

What a wonderful place!

Food was amazing, I was actually glad they had the option to go half and half because a lot of them sounded very good.

They have vegan cheese as well.

Definitely recommend visiting!

This place was so good I came back twice!

We tried the following pizzas:
- 1/2 Grasshoppers (GREAT) 1/2 Tamarind sauce (OK)

- pepperoni w/ black olives w/ fresh mozzarella (GREAT)

- Pizza of the Month: red onion + jalapeño + Serrano peppers + Oaxacan chorizo (GREAT)

A celiac's dream in Oaxaca. Very cute and cozy location, the staff is mega awesome, very quick to help and very knowledgeable about celiac disease or gluten free dishes. The food was very tasty and the pizza dough was quite unique. Great experience for us. Definitely recommend

An awesome menu that can satisfy carnivores, vegans, vegetarians and any person with weird allergies.
We ate the 3-cheese pizza and the vegetarian lasagna. The pizza was good, the lasagna was served inside a hot glass plate and was great and the portion was probably the biggest I've ever had in a restaurant.
Fair pricing, attentive service, what else can I say? Very recommended.

Amazing place. They knew what celiac was and took accommodations. Was able to have a vegan and gluten free pizza for the first time in months!

They also have zero alcohol beer (non gluten free) for my partner who doesn’t drink.

The atmosphere was so cute as well. This is a really accommodating restaurant and I love it!

Staying at an Airbnb right above this lovely gallery with built in pizzeria. Highly recommend staying here and experienckng the food+atmosphere. I'm not one for beer, but this local sour was amazing and I would definitely drink it again. The empanadas came as an order of 3 but unfortunately it was too good to wait and you only get to see two 😅.

This place is incredible! Not something I ever expected to find in Mexico, but I’m so glad we found this place! Gluten free and vegan options abound here, and they even have gluten free beer!!!! I could’ve cried from happiness! Great service, gorgeous place and creative dishes to top it all off! Toppings include crickets and hibiscus flower!

Margherita pizza is fantastic. Lots of good craft beers too. Owner chefs take great pride in food quality. Very small (8tables?) place but great service! Wish they’d sell their logo tees!

The vegan pizza and vegan lasagna were amazing! The cheese they use is perfect. I could eat this pizza every day. One note is that you might want to order the lasagna without the carrots because the carrot flavor is overwhelming and too healthy feeling and takes away from the satisfying/guilty pleasure of normal lasagna (cheese, tomato, pasta). I think removing the carrots and maybe adding soy chorizo and more tomato would be a better choice if you want it to taste like the lasagna you crave.

Stumbled across this place and it was such a treat! Super friendly and lovely service. Pizza and toppings were delicious, wood fired crispy bases. Salads were huge and really fresh.

Love this place. Easy, friendly and delicious food. Going again tonight for the third time this trip. Good gluten-free options, but great as well if you prefer gluten. Good salads to go with your pizza or lasagna. Decent beer and wine choices.

Lovely lovely vegan pizza!! The vegan cheese was fab, with the thin crispy base, and lots of vegetable options for toppings!! So so yummy!!

The staff are super attentive and really lovely. We had a fabulous meal here!

We had dinner here in November 2022 and the best gluten free pizza. Staff are delightful. We are looking forward to eating here again this fall/winter

Probably in the top 10 of the pizzas I have ever eaten... Very thin, amazing products, not a problem to allow 5 stars to this place!

The staff is great, very nice, and speaks correct English. They have paper and pen to lend to kids, which is very smart. It is inside an interior courtyard, very safe for kids. A good choice of draft beer.

I could go there twice a week:-)

It was beautiful food in a beautiful venue! We are all vegan so it was so nice to have lots of vegan options. The pizza was incredible and the staff was helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend.
