Tantkyitaung Pagoda is 90 feet (27 m) high with the base of 60 feet (18 m). Its nine tiers of umbrella contains a silver vane and the diamond bud. It has been renovated in successive periods. It has an image of Lord Buddha, a statue of Ananda and that of the forest guardian. A look down from the pagoda platform reveals the head of a dragon protruding from the walling down below. It is said that the tail end of this likeness of the dragon is around the site of Shwezigon Pagoda

These magnificent historical temples were constructed between the 11th and 13th centuries, in the prosperous Kingdom of Bagan.

We had to reach the Pagoda by crossing the River Aeyawady by ferry boat arranged by the Bus tour operator in the Package to Bagan & around. It was a pleasant experience to cross the calm River. It took about 30 minutes to reach the base point of the hill housing the Pagoda.
The second leg of travel is by a jammed van into which the tourists are packed - 16 in one load van with no seats!
With a request for capture of scenes in my photography I was permitted to sit at the front driver side seat. The van took another 30 min up ( 20 min down ride).
The van was parked at the foot of the Pagoda.
We preferred to go by free lift to the level of Pagoda.
After having a brief prayer at the Lord's abode we started enjoying the beautiful surroundings of plain+ hills view on one side and the River view on another side .
There is also steps to reach the Pagoda through which we can view the Shrines at the lower reaches.
The return trip also takes an equal time totalling half a day for the whole trip. Yet with adventurous experience it is worth spending the time .

One of the best experience of Bagan!
Waking up early in the morning, crossing the Ayeyarwady River in the dark, riding a bus uphill, all worth the breathtaking sunrise you can see from the summit.
Oh! this is one of the best place in Myanmar to propose your fiancée while watching the best sunrise in the country.

Visited here on the one cloudy day of the season so no views out over the river to Bagan. Didn't really matter too much as this is a fascinating pagoda to visit, even in the rain. Don't miss the pointing Buda half way up the stairway as this position is very rare. Once at the Stupa it was very busy with local worshipers, even in the rain. Once here the white elephant is popular, also quite rare, so don't miss it.
