Bagan Archaeological Museum

Humble but highly informative. It's a massive building but don't be intimidated. The exhibits inside are simple but full of useful information. If possible, visit here before touring the many temples in Bagan. Unless you are a historian specializing in the Bagan Period and other Southeast Asian cultures, you'll learn a lot of useful information about crosscurrents, architectural approaches, history, religious beliefs resulting in various depictions of the Buddha and more. I wish I had realized how I could have developed a sharper appreciation for /understanding of what I was seeing the previous day! Allow 1-2 hours. Almost every caption and sign provides English translations.

This is a very worth to go place. You could spend one whole day immerse in the great history and art of Bagan. Every single piece of display has a lot to learn about the traditions, culture and amaze by the detail artworks.

You can have a great idea about Bagans culture. If you are buddhist, will be easy to understand. Or else you have to hire a local guide

5000 kyat per entry. Totally worth it with plenty to see. It's famous with the locals too. The washroom though is located at the very back. Oh, and they got this small museum for kids too

It's worth to visit. I'd suggest to spend 1 hrs if you're museum person. English translation are available but there's no audio. This museum could make Perfect Bagan Trip.

Beautiful exhibits on crafts and history of the area. Well lit exhibits are displayed beautifully best museum I've been to so far in south east Asia could have spend hours there but was dragged way by friends after 2 and half hours.

Only wish they provided more information about the area's history and the restoration of many of the temples.

A must visit to get an idea of the history of Bagan. Well arranged and graphically explained, it is the place to start the visit of Bagan from. The different statues of Buddha in various Mudras , the multitude of stories that reveal a glorious past, the imposing painting of the temples------ all are necessary to be imbibed first to understand the ancient culture of Bagan

A must-see to understand how Bagan came to be. Lots of 3D models of the original state of palaces and short information about WHY they were built/commissioned by kings, etc. Useful information also on the way the local population uses natural resources, eg. The palm tree. Would definitely go again! Very informative!

Wonderful place to see many Myanmar historical information

Temples are nice but just now piles of bricks all thier grandure eroded away. The museum provides insights into the grandure, the elaborate decorations that draped these brick skeleton that now dot Bagan landscape. Furthermore very enlighten policy let you use you cell phone camera to take pictures. I wish more museums would allow photos.

It'll give you the summary of the rich cultural heritage of Bagan. The museum itself is overwhelmingly huge and may take around three hours for the ancient artifact aficionados.
