Ankify Harbor

Ankify c’est le port d’embarquement et de débarquement principalement vers et de Nosy-Bé en Speed Boat. La durée est d’une vingtaine des minutes et cela coûte AR 20,000 par personne.
Au port d’Ankify il y en a plein d’activités commerciales avec des gargotes à ciel ouvert où vous retrouverez des fruits locaux frais et très juteux à des prix très abordables. Les poissons frites et autres bananes à multiple cuissons sont très commun dans ce beau région.
Il y en une petite mosquée très propre et très bien entretenue avec de la place pour les dames aussi.

Passage ce jour pour Nosy Be. Port rénover il y a peu de temps. Traversée 130000Ar voiture et 2 passagers.

Très agréable. En bac, en vedette ou bateau privée. Les gens y sont conviviales.

Depuis la rénovation, le port acceuil plus de bateau, et on y trouve des menus pendants l'attente des bateaux.

If you're not used to how Madagascan transport hubs work, this is a bit manic. But it's totally normal for the taxi brousse ticket touts to take you by the arm and lead you to a bus. Here's our experience in the hope it'll be helpful to others...

We got off the collective pirogue from Nosy Komba (stress free, charged the same as the locals, you don't need to tip extra for your bags, but you can if you want). We were met by loads of people trying to carry our bags, asking us where we were going and lead us by the arm.

We didn't need anyone to carry out bags, so kept them. We walked up the access ramp and shared that we were looking for a taxi brousse to Ambilobe. We were led to a reasonably full Mercedes Sprinter, sat in the front, then told it would be 100,000 Ariary. We haggled and eventually got it for 60,000 for 2 people. During this time, there was a guy in the driver's seat and two more outside the passenger door. It felt quite full on. We had no idea whether we'd done well or not until later when we say the locals paying 20,000 each. For the front seats and for a tourist, this is a very good deal.

This is when it got interesting... We paid the guy sat in the driver's seat who'd been saying he was our driver. He gave us a card with our names and something else scribbled on it, got it and disappeared, as did the other guys who'd been involved in the negotiation. All the bags got taken off the roof and everyone else got out of the bus! We thought we'd been had!

But over the next hour or two, the bus filled up. We saw many other people (locals particularly) in the port being led by the arm and subject to the hard sell and really the best approach is to take it with a smile and understand it really is just a game!

Everyone in the bus had their own seat. Once the actual driver had tied the prop shaft (or whatever) back on, we eventually left. The journey was fine with just one stop as we left Ankify to swap driver again and check whatever had been tied on was holding and off we went.

Overall a good experience of if you're prepared to be a bit trusting and do with the flow!

A well run port although can seem a little chaotic during the busy times. If you intend to get a taxi bus you could end up waiting for quite some time for the taxi to fill up before it leaves.
