Gite D'etape : Gorges De Ziz

We didn’t plan to stop here on our way to Merzouga but it turned out to be the best experience we had on our trip. The valley and kasbah are beautiful and Ali is a very friendly host who took us for a tour in the mountains and around the kasbah. The food was also great!

We stumbled upon this beautiful place on our drive to Merzouga. It was getting late so we decided to stay for the night. It was the best choice we could have made and I would highly recommend anyone along this route to do the same. Ali was such a kind and helpful person and really made you feel at home. You’re also surrounded by beautiful views all around you.

Kasbah Gite D’etape Gorges De Ziz is located in Achbaro. Achbaro a tiny village, 5 hours south of Fes. It is a great place to overnight to break the long trip from the Sahara Desert to Fes or Meknes. Ali, the owner and manager of the kasbah, cooked us a very tasty chicken & vegetables tajine for dinner.
After an excellent breakfast, Ali sent us on our way with a bag full of delicious dates from the local palmeraie.

Very nice and authentic gite. Great food and owner is very helpful.

Didn't stay in the rooms but look very nice when we went to the restaurant in the evening. We parked our motorhome here for the night. 3 x spaces. Welcomed with mint tea, salted nuts, and local dates. Followed later with coffee, more dates, and animal biscuits. Ali was very knowledgeable and passionate about his area and is quite happy to take you out as a guide to the local areas. Definitely worth a call in if you are in the area.

Ali (the owner) put in a lot of work and effort to renovate this old kashba into an amazing place!! Surely worth to take a stop and check out this place and the amazing surroundings. A really nice atmosphere and family vibe! Soyez bienvenue chez ali!!!

We (family of five) spent three days with Ali and this was the highlight of our ten day trip to Morocco. Ali is so incredibly kind, generous, helpful and his food is delicious. Houses and surroundings are much more beautiful than the pictures show. The rooms are very cozy and all have modern toilets and hot water showers. If I got it right this building is from the 14th century and Ali renovates and restores it bit by bit. Caravans used to pass in the oasis behind the building and the villagers built towers and thick walls around their houses to protect themselves from bandits.

Ali gave us a guided tour in the oasis and to an old abandoned village nearby. He also took us to a Berber village in the mountains where he supports a women’s association. It was a beautiful and interesting experience.

I can highly recommend a stay here.

Nous avons voyagé de Fès à Merzouga, nous avons arrêté en chemin à la Gîte d’étape de Ali. Il nous a attendu et accueilli très tard malgré que nous avions dépassé l’heure du Check-in. Il nous a accueilli avec une tajine et couscous préparé par lui-même. Nous avons eu de très belles discussions, il est absolument chaleureux et aimable. De plus, l’endroit est superbe. Je vous recommande 100%

Eigentlich war diese Unterkunft nur als günstige Zwischennacht zwischen Fes und Merzouga gedacht und wurde vollkommen unerwartet definitiv ein Highlight auf unserer Reise durch Marokko. Wer Luxus sucht ist hier jedoch falsch. Das Haus wurde aus Ruinen neu aufgebaut. Nebenan sieht man noch die Ruinen. Jedes Zimmer hat sein eigenes, kleines Bad mit warmen Wasser. Das Abendessen durften wir unter Anleitung des Gastgebers selbst zubereiten. Es war die beste Tajine im ganzen Urlaub. Und das für umgerechnet 5 € pro Person. Das Frühstück mit sehr gutem Omelette so viel man will kostet nur 2,50 € pro Person. Tee gibt es immer so viel man will. Wer etwas anderes als Wasser und Tee möchte, der muss es sich selbst mitbringen. Vom Haus bis zum Fluss, der bei uns nur wenig Wasser führte, dauert es ca. 5 Minuten zu Fuß. Der Ausblick ist toll. Jederzeit wieder.

Plus qu’un gîte c’est surtout une rencontre avec un homme généreux et authentique.
Il parle un Français parfait vous explique sa rénovation la vie quotidienne.
Au bout de quelques minutes vous vous sentez comme chez vous et il vous fait découvrir la vie de son village à travers une ballade.
Son tajine est le meilleur de tout notre voyage.

Conseillé par des amis, ce gîte géré par Ali est vraiment authentique. Ali est d'une gentillesse rare. Proche d'une belle palmeraie, la fraîcheur participe à l'authenticité.

Nous avons passé une nuit. Nous nous sommes sentis bien accueillis. Parking camping-car pour 50 mad et 100 mad pour un tajine pour 2 personnes. petit déjeuner gentillement offert le matin. Ali était très attentionné pour nos enfants aussi. Les travaux qu'il a fait sur la Kasbah sont très réussis en respectant la construction traditionnelle. Nous lui souhaitons pleine réussite dans la suite de son projet!

Tolle Location. Haben nur einen kleinen Stop auf dem Weg gemacht um einen Tee und Kaffee zu trinken. Und dennoch sind wir so herzlich und aufmerksam empfangen worden. Auch ein längerer Besuch wäre es bestimmt wert gewesen. Die authentische Kasbah ist auch sehr gut restauriert worden, die kühle darin ist ein Segen bei den warmen Temperaturen draußen :)

Petite Kasbah authentique au milieu des gorges de Ziz. Accueilli par Ali qui à peine arrivés nous propose des dattes du jardin et du bon thé. La générosité d’Ali nous a laissé sans voix. Lieu de départ d’incroyables randonnées à travers les gorges. Pour couronner le tout, balade avec Ali afin de connaître l’histoire de son village. Un arrêt à ne pas manquer!!!!

Bij toeval hier gekomen maar een geweldige mooie locatie zeker als je van wandelen houdt. Het is hier niet toeristisch. De kamers waren geweldig mooi ingericht. Echt netjes, niets op aan te merken.

Nous avons passé deux nuits chez Ali.
Il nous a accueilli avec une bienveillance qui est toute naturelle chez lui et bien évidemment le traditionnel thé.
Nous avons pu choisir notre chambre et elle était avec vu sur la Palmeraie. Le soir nous avons pu dégusté le tagine qu’Ali nous a préparé (recette qu’il tient de sa grand-mère) et nous nous sommes régalés. Le lendemain Ali nous a proposé de faire une magnifique marche. Il nous a expliqué l’histoire de la région depuis l’origine à nos jours. Grace à lui nous avons rencontré une famille nomade avec qui nous avons bu le thé. C’était une magnifique rencontre. Ali m’a proposé de préparer avec lui son couscous ( une recette de sa grand-mère ) et maintenant je sais parfaitement cuire la graine en plus de connaître les secrets de la recette du couscous de la grand-maman d’Ali. Le lendemain avant de reprendre notre nous avons fait une dernière promenade dans la palmeraie avec Ali. Cela nous éclaire beaucoup sur le monde rural. Donc plus qu’un gîte nous avons rencontré une grande personne.

Une adresse à noter et un lieu pour s’arrêter!Magnifique endroit où la palmeraie vit encore, les roches sont magnifiques entre ombre et soleil, et un peu d’eau coule dans l’oued! Merci à toi Ali pour ton accueil, ta gentillesse, ton partage de savoirs et ta cuisine. Je reviendrais…
