It’s a busy place so if you’re expecting to get pretty photos without others in the background, you’re in for a rude awakening. We snapped our selfies and then just marvelled in the beauty and detail of the craftsmanship. It’s really a sight to behold and a fabulous way to enter the Fes Medina.

It really shines at golden hour near sunset

Iconic gate of Fes city old town (Medina). Middle Age bazaar (souq - souk). The gate's west outside tiles have blue - purple color, east inside tiles have green - turquise color. Inside and outside of Medina you can find lot of cafe, restaurant and exchange office. Near to gate two hotel out of gate.

The most famous gate to the Fes old city (Fes Albali). Right behind are good cafes and food places then the alleys begin.

It is the entry to the old city of Fez, the traditional food is great, but a bit dirty!
Prices are all over the place! You need to have an idea and negotiate a little..
In general..Fez deserves a one night stay in the old part of the city

Beautiful gate entering the old medina of Fes. Honestly we walked all of the way through the medina to the tanneries and then back around the medina for the view and this was our favorite spot. We enjoyed the beautiful architecture right when you entered through the gate and ate at the same restaurant twice there.

Great city tour with a guide. Lots to experience, walked around old city, medina, leather working, weaving places, usyal market stalls. Very good, worth paying for a local guide as you get more out of your visit.

It's one of the ancient gates to enter the Mediana Market. The uniqueness of this gate is one side it's green color and the other side is the red color. It's just too crowded when I visit. They have lots of Shops selling morrocoan traditional wear and foods.

Have to visit this place if you're in Fez. I came in late January/February and it wasn't packed at all. Just bring a jacket or coat and you'll be great walking around here and miss the crowds.

The entrance to the big Pazar. Near you have atm, just left from the entrance if you standing outside the Pasar.
Just be careful when buying things, they try to rip you off because you are a tourist.

Taxi tip, ask them to put the counter on, otherwise just go out and take another taxi.

Great spot to enter the medina from. Leads into the two main roads leading east from the gate. One has more food stuff (even lots for locals) and the other has more souvenirs and touristy things. I would even recommend staying nearby ths Blue Gate because it makes it way easier to find your way to and from your home (Dar Lala Wafae is a good budget option).

Blue gate becomes tourists attraction. One of the major gate that was built in 1913. Behind the gate you will discover Moroccan history. And, you will see arts and crafts, food and fun shopping here. Fascinating local market with lots of local products. Affordable prices. I was very excited and had a good time, so much fun here. However, mind your wallet. It crowded here.

Main landmark door to access Fes old medina. Cafes/shops/artisans/restaurant/ riads/hotels are within reach from this location. A big public parking is located on top of the road about 300 yard. This is one of the most visited medina in the kingdom of Morocco. World's first university was opened in the medina (madrassa Quaraouiyine. It was founded as a mosque  by Fatima el Fihrii in 857–859 and subsequently became one of the leading spiritual and educational centers of the Islamic gokden age. It was incorporated into Morocco's modern state university system in 1963 and officially renamed "University of Al Quaraouiyine

The markets were unique to anything I have seen this far. They have anything you could want from leather items, to clothing, to food. I personally did not have any food however I did buy many goods which of the goods i bought seem to be fair quality. There were also many historic sites while you go through the markets.

Gorgeous architecture.

Lots of history everywhere you go. Also: this is the perfect spot to get a taxi- as always ask for price before taking it or you pay a lot of “tourist tax”

No one visits Fez without passing by Bab Boujloud at least once. It is virtually impossible, as the gate (bab in Arabic) serves as an excellent navigation point for the lost wanderers trying to find their way through the busy streets of the Fez medina. But Bab Boujloud is much more than just a handy reference point on a map. Its glittering mosaic tiles and grand archway have made it one of Morocco’s most famed gateways and a sight you definitely won’t want to miss as you discover the city of Fez.

A Young Masterpiece
Unlike most Moroccan historical sights, Bab Boujloud is actually quite recent. Built as late as in 1913, this gateway into the heart of the Fez medina was actually designed and completed during the French occupation of Morocco. Just next to it, you will be able to find the original gate into the bustling medina streets constructed in the 12th century deliberately on a slant to block ram herds from entering.
You will get a more impressive view of this monumental gateway from the outside of the medina. Take a few steps back and you can admire the glistening blue mosaics arching around the picturesque backdrop of the souks and sights of Fez. Within the main archway, you will be able to see two minarets in the distance: the one of the left belongs to the beautiful ruins of the 20th century Sidi Lazzaz mosque and is usually topped by a stork’s nest, while the smaller one on the right is part of the magnificent 14th century Bou Inania Medersa.

As you enter the medina through Bab Boujloud, you will notice how the color of the mosaics change: the outside blue (also the color of Fez) turns to green on the inside, revealing the color of Islam.
As the main entrance into the Fez medina, the famed “blue gate” is also one of the best spots in the city to observe daily life in Morocco. After admiring Bab Boujloud’s incredible architecture, have a seat in one of the cafes or restaurants set up inside and right around the gate. Enjoy a cup of tea or a delicious tagine as you witness the comings and goings of swift street vendors, excited tour groups, and the men, women and children of Fez as they make their way through the gate to get to the hammam, return from school and shop for fresh produce in the souks
