Worth a day trip to Spain! Lots of hiking, shops, good food, kite surfing, horseback riding, and beaches to explore. Note, there is a one hour time difference to Spain. So it’ll show it takes 2 hours for the ferry when it is really just 1 hour or less on the boat. Tarifa is the closest port with the most to do. If you want to rent a car, check out Algeciras port instead.

Ferry Process
1. Check if you are a country that needs a visa for entrance (US citizens do not).

2. Purchase a ticket online (if in Morocco) or in-person. This will save a lot of time! If you try to purchase while not in the country, the website may reject your payment. Be sure to check-in online to reveal your boarding pass. If you do not have a boarding pass, you can pick-up at the ferry station when you arrive. Going from Tangier to Tarifa there were no lines, going from Tarifa to Tangier, the line was VERY long. Although we were vaccinated, we never had to show proof of this.

3. Using your e-boarding pass or paper pass, go through to security. Security is minimal - don’t need to take items out of your bag or remove shoes.

4. Go through passport control. This is slow and it’s important to arrive an hour early to get through on time. There will be toilets and food (depending how early you leave) on the other side while you wait for the ferry.

5. Board the ferry - likely one more passport check first. You will enter near where the cars are driving on, and then go upstairs to where passengers sit. There are window seats - but don’t expect any open air seating for whale viewing. Windows get blurry. Bring euros with you for cafe purchases! Credit cards are frequently not accepted or broken. Lots of comfortable seating - booths with tables and benches.

Important note! When you return from Tarifa Spain to Morocco, be sure to get your passport stamped WHILE on the ferry. You will not be able to get back into Morocco without it. This is applicable for anyone that is not a Moroccan citizen.

Checking in and clearing customs/border control is really easy. Our ferry (FRS) was late by about 30 minutes going out and coming back and I suspect that this is pretty much the norm. Not really a problem for us but might be worth allowing a bit more time if it will be for you.

We had 11am sailing and arrived at 9.30am. Couldn't find parking anywhere in the designated carparks and on nearby streets, and there were lots of people struggling to do the same. We finally managed to park in a supermarket carpark, which should have cost a fortune (40 euros) but ended up being free. Best bit of advice is to get there really early and park in Old Town and walk down to ferry terminal (about 15/20 min walk)

Taking a ferry to Africa is a must when visiting Southern Spain. It's 30km cruise through the Gibraltar Strait. Awesome experience!

Took the FRS cultural day tour, yes the ferry ran a little late and there are some passport queues but once you are in the magic of morocco all is forgotten! The lunch with live music was awesome. English speaking guides do keep you moving as there is a lot to see before return trip.

Great way to go back and forth between Tarifa and Tangier. Quick boat with nice service.

Was a bit apprehensive with all the up and down reviews. Journey to tangier was pretty good. Parking available at around €23/day but apparently discount available with ferry tickets Quick check in and smooth enjoyable ride. Queue for customs is long and there were still few people left as the ferry docked in tangier but you dont have to stand in it. Let your family sit and relax and they can join you at the end of the queue. Alternatively enjoy the views and join the queue when it shortens. Hopefully journey back will be as smooth

Fantastic day. We took the “cultural tour” and had a great experience. Any trip to Northern Africa, or most places involving passports for that matter, will involve lines. For the uninitiated you must be also prepared for the endless sales pitches of locals selling their trinkets, it’s how they make their living, say no and move on. The tour guides were excellent! The boats were on time and the restaurant we ate at was very tasty.

Quick comfortable trip from Spain to Morocco

Park and Ride to Tangiers 35 euros each way. Reasonably priced food and beverage. Once on board grab a seat then Q up to pass Moroccan customs.

Did the job. We took the free bus from Algecieras to Tarifa and everything went smoothly. They did immigration stuff on the ferry which saved time. Nothing to complain about.
