Bab Fes (Also know by Bab Lakhmiss) is one of the oldest city gates. It was opened during the Almoravid Reign of the city (Around 1046-1056).

It was called Bab Fes because of its orientation towards the east which made it the gateway for people and especially caravans traveling from Salé to Fes.

The gate got the Bab Lakhmiss Name (Thursday's gate) when a weekly Souk established in front it every thursday.

The main gate got closed definetely in 1991 and two other doors around it are used instead.
