Surprising place and landscapes! No animal spotted. We weren’t sure to go and worried about slippery path but it wasn’t the case luckily for us. Even got a glimpse of the sun! I read access was tricky but we managed to go by using a bolt, and asked the driver to wait two hours for us.

Best to go in the morning and be back before it gets too dark.

Really enjoyed hiking through the bog on the board walk. Didn't take all that long to do the loop. Must climb the tower for the best views.

Well worth the 50 minutes drive from Riga. We absolutely loved it. Free but only paid 3 for the parking. Easy walk, beautiful, less than an hour walk. Take some food and drink and use the chairs to enjoy them.

This hike takes you through an absolutely beautiful landscape and is a must for all hikers and nature lovers!

If you spend 3+ days in Riga, I highly recommend you add it to your itinerary. The transportation from/to Riga may seem daunting at first, but it’s definitely worth it. I added some info on transportation below. Also, you can easily combine this hike with a visit to Jūrmala beach (Majori train station).

You can choose between a ~1.5km and a ~3.5km hike. The latter will take you to an observation tower of about 10m. Take that one to enjoy some surreal scenic views.

The boardwalk is in good shape for the most part. Few boards are a bit shaky or damaged, but we didn’t have any issues. Some boards may get a bit slippery after rain. Just be a bit more careful then.

TRANSPORTATION

The closest train station (Kemeri) is about 3-3.5km walk to the starting point of the trail. It’s an easy walk (~1km along paved road and ~2km along a forest road). You have to cross a highway, but it’s not very busy. The train passes every hour or so. Cost of the train: 2.10€ p.p. You can buy the ticket online or on the train.

(1) Alternatively, you could take a bus from that same station up north to Kauguri 2 and take another bus to Riga from there.
(2) You can take a Bolt from a train/bus stop close by to the parking lot. However, you probably will have to walk back.

I’ve been here twice. First during the weekend on Saturday and second at dawn a little after sunrise 5:02am. I’d highly recommend seeing this place at dawn during spring! It’s a lot beautiful, natural, refreshing and calm! It’s still a bit cold here even in the month 3rd week of May so probably dress well! I really loved it and wanted to stayed for about a couple of hours here relaxing! The mist meeting the sunrise just creates a magical scenery with the water looking smoke-like! You should certainly visit :)

I did it in winter so the bog was hidden but it was breathtaking anyway.

So amazing to see the bog and learn about it! Walking trail started in the forest and eventually leads you out to the wooden planks over the bog.

Beautiful place with unique flora and fauna, well worth a visit! Both 1.5 and 3.5 walks are fairly easy and accessible. Lovely experience in any weather, but be mindful of mosquitos and sandflies in summer months 🦟

Board the train in Riga on platform 3 and embark on a leisurely journey to Kemeri. Continue in the direction of travel of the train for about 200m, then cross the tracks and follow the paved road to A10. Take a right and hike along A10 for about 500m, then turn left and follow the road into the woods for a few kilometres until you arrive at a parking lot where the trail head of the Kemeri Bog Boardwalk commences. Either take the small loop (1.5km) or the big loop (3.5km) and get ready to be mesmerized by stunning scenery (see pictures). To observe the wildlife, either arrive at sunrise or late in the afternoon and don't forget to bring binoculars. The 360 degrees view from the watch tower is second to none, overlooking the marshes dotted with small ponds. A fabulous excursion to experience what nature has to offer in Latvia!

Best time to visit would be spring, summer or autumn. It is a unique place and a unique experience to see the natural swamps. It is about 3.5k walk, summer time lots of mosquitoes.

A wonderfull experience! What a beautiful park. We were here in februari (cold and wet snow) but even then: beautiful colours! And the path was good to walk on. (Not slippery, well maintained!) Easy to find, toilets available. So my advice: go the distance! :)

High ground over the otherworldly climate of the marshlands. The tower makes it absolutely worth doing the full 3,5 km bogwalk rather than taking a shortcut.
Same as the whole bogwalk, the tower is free of charge.
