the Slītere lighthouse

This lighthouse is a peace of history. Must be visited if you are on a trip in that region. You need to buy a ticket to gen inside, but price is reasonable if you need to take care of that building. Nice view from the top windows. Inside you will see information stands about other lighthouses in that area, as well as the history of Slītere lighthouse.

Lighthouse quite far from sea, but up in mountain. Good views.

worth to visit, you need strong legs to climb on stairs to tower and hiking trail. couple of hours of activity.

A nice historical place to visit, close to Ventspils (abt. 60 km). Also on the way from Ventspils to Kolka with a small 10 km detour, so a definite a-worth-visit. Wooden stairs lead down from the lighthouse into the old dune which is overgrown with an old, authentic, very dense forest. The forest is beautiful and makes you feel like traveling back in time when all the ancient creatures were giant as are the trees here. The trail through the forest leads into an old swamp where you stumble upon beautiful views of dwarf-like pines and birches, due to those were unable to grow high on a swampy surface, looks cool, as you can see by the bark that trees are old but they’re little. Sort of a local bonsai trees. Makes you feel like on the other planet landscape.
In the summer make sure to bring insect sprays as there are lots of mosquitos in the shady forest area. A great place to see the ‘true nature’ and get some fresh air especially for the city folk ☺

A very beautiful historical place. Good walk along the forest path of medium difficulty.

From this lighthouse, in clear and sunny day it is possible to see over the Baltic sea. Saaremaa island can be visible.
