Jaunpils Castle

Visited the castle with 5yo child - we both enjoyed the excursion a lot! The woman who run the excursion for us was wearing medieval looking dress and fur vest. The excursion ended with her firing the real cannon (my child was impressed!).

The stuff at the museum and the tavern speak Latvian, Russian and English. You can pay by card in the museum shop and in the tavern. I was fascinated by the decorations in the tavern: it was lit by real candles, one of the bouquets was decorated with the goat (?) skull and furry tail of some animal (not sure if those were real, but looked impressive and gothic).

Parking near the castle has a lot of space. I haven’t stayed at the hotel.

Currently (Feb 2024) the inner yard and the roof are under construction, but they promise to finish by May 2024.

Spent a night in the luxury room of Jaunpils castle with an infant. This was our third time there and we are going to be back next year or so. The room is great, the food tasty. 1 star less for service because the restaurant works till 7pm only and it takes ages to fill the bathtub. But the hostesses were very welcoming.

Quiet, peaceful, and tucked away in the Latvian countryside. Delicious tavern located in the inner courtyard, you can just tour around the groups and pop in for a cold beer and venison burger or a gorgeously colored pomegranate seed and goat cheese salad. Make sure to explore around the castle grounds, and see the derelict former mill which has some near ruins and instruments hanging around outside the mill. Stunning old church next to the castle, and archery practice grounds as well. Well worth the day trip from Riga.

The excursion was great, we've laughed all the time, the monk and maid were so professional, it was a great experience, very interesting, everyone from our company of 15 people had the best time! Thank you! And the food was sooo delicious, really tasty. Recommend it as a great timespending👍👍👍

Our stay in the Jaunpils castle was absolutely wonderful from start to finish!
The staff was friendly and nice.
The medieval diner was delicious and so copious, we still have leftovers in the fridge! The atmosphere in the “tavern” was great and made us travel back in time.
We stayed in the Baron room. The room had an “authentic” feel, yet it had all the modern comfort and was very clean. It was a very spacious room, with a great view, comfortable bed, and the fireplace made it so cosy!
We also did a tour. The guide was great and taught us new things in a very fun way!
We will definitely go back there as it was a perfect stay!

Absolutely loved my stay in Jaunpils. We had a medieval package and it really took me back in time. Unforgettable experience. My only comment would be in regards to the bed... not sure if they were trying to mimick medieval beds but it could have been more comfortable. Overall the experience was worth it.

Great place to visit, at the start I was sceptical of this visit, but it turned out better than ever! Friendly and helpful staff, Food was great, location is convenient (~1h from Riga), rooms were in pristine condition with great view (we stayed in the Baron's room), and the general vibe of this place was amazing, strongly recommend!

It was definitely worth it. Me and my wife decided to stay in the baron's room, it was an amazing experience. The food in the tavern was very delicious, good looking and affordable. The only negative thing was the fire alarm that turned on for another room and then the whole castle/hotel, we had to wait for more than 30 minutes for someone to arrive to turn it off. Who knows, maybe it was the famous ghost who turned it on.

Really loved the place, it was such a huge surprise for us! Extremely cozy and beautiful, warm and welcoming atmosphere of this tiny castle made me fall in love with it.
Special thanks to the staff, which was friendly and nice too, and I personally enjoyed the food at the tavern, it was delicious and original, the names of the dishes at the menu were ridiculously genius, made with a great sense of humour, and the food was of a very high quality.

Amazing castle, great guides who makes the excursion interesting and fun. There are huge variety of excursions available depending from your preferences, also dressovers available and romantic excursions for weddings or couples. In Medieval tavern located in the yard you can enjoy amazing medieval style meals fir reasonable prices, big portions. Stunning place!!! near by are craft workshops, Katvaru nature trails and also old mill.

Place is awesome. Tasty food in medieval style pub. Breathtaking sites for photos. I head wedding ceremony there, and we are happy to choose Jaunpils Castle.

Unique opportunity to stay in a real 14th century castle with many authentic features. Traditional Latvian cuisine as well as variety of other choices. So far food was the best I had during my trip this year!

This is for the Tavern, which is great, with quality cuisine that moves away from the standard "potatoes and pork chop" you encounter a lot outside Riga and a great medieval atmosphere. They also offer a proper medieval eating experience which we haven't tried yet (as it needs to be booked in advance), but hope to do some day.

A rather outstanding place. You can sleep, eat and feel at home in the castle. There is also a museum, excursions feature medieval-style costumes, and there's a nice pond next to the castle.

Fantastic medieval dishes, hotel with unique atmosphere and castle from stories of knights!

This is magical experience for every one. Be the princess in real castle!

The bathroom is one for 3 rooms, but this is nonissue.

Thus is unique and authentic experience with the taste of centuries with it.

Amazing castle! And it’s totally worth to stay here overnight. What you can do here:
* You can rent an awesome medieval style room with fireplace
* You can dress in a medieval costume and makr photosession
* You can have a private guide who will tell you everything about the castle and touch reaaaly old armor
* You can walk around and enjoy nature
* Food in local restaurant is amazing. And portions are huge!

Not 5 star, but it's the unique experience that makes this special. Meals were very good, the history and museums were interesting. A hidden jewel in Latvia.

Room is a fantastic experience. Would definitely recommend anyone to book a night (or two) there. Great rooms and fantastic castle

My wife and I spent five nights here whilst visiting friends in a nearby town and the stay was fantastic.

For the first three nights we expiranced three different rooms which were 'The Baron's Room', 'The Baronesses Room' and the 'White Room' all were fabulous. For our final two nights we returned to the 'Baron's Room'.

The bar/ pub is very attmospheric with candles on the tables a real log fire and medieval background music.

The food is good quality and good value as is breakfast.

Such a beautiful example of a medieval architecture in Latvia. There is a restaurant and a hotel inside.
