Bandarawela Railway Station can be described as a railway station located in a town on the Kandyan Railway. The bus stand is located close to the railway station. Travelers traveling to the Eastern Province can easily reach by train and then can pick bus to their destination. This will be very important for tourists visiting Pottuvil and Arugambay.

Bandarawela railway station is the eighth last station on the main line, and is 258.72 km (160.76 mi) away from Colombo . It is located 1,225.5 m (4,021 ft) above mean sea level and 8 km (5.0 mi) from Badulla, the capital city of Uva Province.

All the trains that run on the Main Line, including the Podi Menike and Udarata Menike express trains stop at the station.

The construction of the railway line between Haputale and Bandarawela commenced in 1887 but it wasn't until 1893 that work on the line was completed. Bandarawela was the terminus of the Main Line until the line was extended to Badulla in 1924.

Bandarawela is a popular railway station in the upcountry railway line. It is situated in the Bandarawela town itself, hence easily accessible. Due to its close proximity to the city center, the local community and daily travelers use the station frequently, along with the tourists. Bandarawela station is equipped with the basic facilities.
