Forest Shade Eco Resort Deraniyagala

We stayed for one day and it was a perfect place for get out of urban busy lifestyle. Location was quite and natural friendly. Their natural pool was amazing.
Chef Hasthintha and His staff went out of their way to arrange everything for us. We had the best candle night dinner experience plus delicious meal made with love😇
Staff members were very friendly and well trained.
Had few power and drainage difficulties due to sudden heavy rain but the staff were quick to arrange us alternatives.
View during rain on the balcony was breathtaking🤩

This is an incredible hotel/resort in the middle of the forest. The location is mesmerizing but the only catch is the last 2km stretch but it’s definitely manageable and will be most definitely worth it. The rooms are well maintained and equipped with all essential amenities, accompanied with incredible views of the forest. The network is pretty bad, so it’s a great opportunity to disconnect from the outside world and immerse yourself in the jungle atmosphere.
The staff are incredibly professional and very helpful and will assist you in every possible way during your stay.
For meals they provide a three course meal, which was very satisfying and it was high in quality and quantity. There’s a variety of menus to choose from.
For anyone that’s feeling adventurous, there’s a hike that you can do along the river upstream which is filled with picturesque sights and it’s definitely worth doing. (Recommended to do this during the morning as you’ll be able to see the sunrise. Wouldn’t advise this for kids as it is very slippery and risky and also be vary when the currents are high, apart from that it’s an incredible adventure and definitely the highlight of our trip.)

Hidden Gem in the Forest

This resort is truly one of the best places I've ever been to! From the moment we booked our stay, the staff was amazing and super organized. They followed up with us regularly and provided detailed information before our arrival, which we highly recommend reading.

The road to the resort is through a typical forest area, so it's best to have a sturdy vehicle like a cab or a defender. We managed with a Vitz, but it was quite challenging. However, the hotel offers transportation if requested in advance, and there's parking available for smaller vehicles for the last 2 kilometers, adding to the eco-experience.

Upon entering the resort, you immediately feel the forest vibe. The river flowing through the premises is a highlight, and we spent most of our time exploring it. The rooms are luxurious, clean, and cozy, with all the amenities you'd expect except for a dryer.

One thing to note is that phone and wifi signals are weak, which disconnects you from the digital world – something we appreciated. Additionally, they only accept cash payments, adding to the rustic experience.

The food was another highlight – though not a large spread, everything was delicious and amazing. During our stay, we mainly explored the river and only returned to the resort for meals and sleep. It's truly a hidden gem, and we loved every bit of our experience here!

The location is a great break away from all the city fuzz and is very nature bound. The menu wasn't massive but the all the food were amazingly well made! Rooms were quit peaceful and very accommodating.

And finally the staff they were very helpful and provides for guests tirelessly with great attention and care. Should specifically mention that our interactions with Hasintha and Chamara were really great, they made sure we had an exceptionally good time and the whole journey was worth it.

One of the best boutique hotels I’ve ever visited. The resort was created with a unique concept where you get two bathing pools filled with natural water coming through a stream. Most interesting thing is the small waterfall nearby where its a much safer to sit on the rock and have a cold bath. The chef himself manage with a very little staff, yet the foods and service was awesome. You get an amazing view from each room. Real calm and quiet place within a small forest.
One notable thing is the access road. Do not go there with low ground clearance.

We recently had the opportunity to visit one of the most remarkable locations for relaxation. This place was absolutely awesome! The staff was incredibly friendly, and the food they served was of excellent quality. The presence of a river and a few pools provided us with a wide range of activities to keep us busy. We highly recommend staying for at least two nights, as this place offers a much-needed escape from our busy lifestyles. It's worth noting that a vehicle with higher ground clearance is necessary, at least until they rebuild the road, which is currently a bit rough and off-road in nature. It seems that the road is susceptible to damage during heavy rainfall. Despite this, the overall experience was fantastic, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to unwind and recharge.

A great place to spend your vacation. You can walk up to the river and nearby small waterfall. You may have fresh water pool bath in two separate pools. The premises is not totally silent as you may hear the flowing of the river from your balcony. Rooms are provided with everything you may need. Foods are tasty too.
Last two kilometres are challenging if you are not used to ride/drive such washed away roads. But the hotel have done some paving to certain zones.

Irecently stayed at Forest Shade Echo Resort and I must say, it exceeded all our expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality by the friendly staff. The food at the resort was exceptional, The staff was always on hand to cater to our every need, ensuring that we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

A good place indeed for a chilled out stay. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. The food was extremely good. The place has pools and also it has a river flowing by with a beautiful waterfall. If you are looking for a good place without having to travel so far from Colombo, this would be your go to place definitely. You may have to take cash with you since due to low internet bandwidth they prefer cash payments.

Food was delicious. Food service was good. Best to go in a small vehicle with good ground clearance. Travelling by motorcycle is best. Few things to take note of: Frequent power interruptions and no WiFi. Phone connections also very weak and almost no data connection at all. Not the best place for a working holiday. The resort management should attend to this matter. Now a days it's an important aspect of life.

It's time for some maintenance to be carried out. It definitely is a challenge to upkeep the appearance of the property. However, some basic housekeeping can be attended to by the very energetic team at the property. Cleanliness of corridors, passages, areas under the staircase, rugs, dust on furniture, cobwebs etc are within human control and need to be given attention.

All in all, very good property to spend some time. Staff are very courteous.

Good two nights spent at the hotel were amazing. Hidden in a precious location, with river, water fall and natural pools. Fantastic food and a very friendly staff. Condition of the rooms are very good and recommended. Travelled with our 3 years little one and it is like two days spent in the middle of a forest.The road to the hotel is narrow and recommend to drive during the day time. Ideal place for nature loving, adventurous ones who are looking for a calm day with no mobiles. Highly recommend.

We stayed at this place for two days, the road trip had some really nice views and its a good drive, the road gets tough in the last 2 km but its manageable and worth it. The resort has really nice views and there is a waterfall near the resort as well, it's ideal for the young crowd and very relaxing for the elderly as well.

The service was exceptional and the staff is very welcoming. Overall it was great experience.

We had a great time at FOREST SHADE with our families. The last 2Km to the hotel was a quite adventurous but had a great view. As we entered the hotel it’s quite different & magnificent than you see everywhere else -
everything was with a natural touch.

Very friendly staff ,delicious food,clean and nice atmosphere.Highly recommend for family gathering. Better if you can spend a night there to listen to the sounds of the river, waterfalls. I cannot wait to go back again! Thank you Forest Shade :)
