Shorea stipularis යන විද්‍යාත්මක නමින් හඳුන්වන “නවඳ” ශාකය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට ආවේණික ශාක විශේෂයකි. ඉතා ඍජු කඳක් සහිත ඉතා උස්ව වර්ධනය වන ශාක විශේෂයක් වන නවද ශාක සිංහරාජය, කන්නෙලිය, අත්වැල්තොට වැනි පහත රට තෙත් වනාන්තර තුල නෙරූ ස්ථරයේ හමුවන ප්‍රමුඛ ශාක විශේෂයකි. සිංහරාජයේ සහ කන්නෙලියේ පිහිටි ප්‍රකට නවද ශාක මෙන්ම මෙම යෝධ නවද ගසද මෙරට හමුවන විශාලම ශාක අතරින් එකක් ලෙස සැලකේ. අඩි 200 ක පමණ උසකින් යුත් මෙම ශාකයේ පාමුල වට ප්‍රමාණය ආසන්න වශයෙන් වට අඩි 15 පමණ ප්‍රමාණයකින් යුක්ත වේ.
