Liptons Seat Café

Really friendly owner and 2 friendly dogs (Tarzan and Muthu) to keep you company. Tasty, freshly cooked Sri Lankan breakfast and a pot of tea for 2 people was a bargain at 1100 rupees (Nov 2023). Don't let appearances put you off - this place is great and "safe" to eat at.

Food worth the price. You just have to enter. They'll bring a food platter with what they have. There is rotti with lunu miris, wadei, pancakes and samosa. Also there's plain tea, milk tea, coffee. Hand washing facility isn't available. Better to take a hand snitizer and wet wipes with you. This is the only cafe up in the Lipton's seat. We were 2 adults and 1 kid, our cost was 180/= on 30th Dec 2023.

Like or not if you're hungry and no food taken this is the only option. 😆

Just what you need, especially when it's raining and there's no view. They do move the platter of food from one table to the next and you take what you want, but who can turn down a greasy samosa and a cheap cup of tea?

Aardige bediening! Ze spraken goed Engels. We hebben verschillende snacks geprobeerd (welke betaald worden per stuk) en kregen thee. Dit alles voor maar 400 roepies.

Dommage, c'est une arnaque! Le gérant t'invite à boire un thé, vu le prix d'entrée cela paraît normal, en plus il te met un assortiment de gâteaux, rôtis etc sans prévenir que tout est payant!.
Le thé était bon et leur sucre une révélation que je n'ai pas retrouvé ailleurs.

Best Samosa we had in Sri lanka.
But be carefull because They don’t ask you what you want but directly bring big plate of snacks. We paid 1200 so it wasn’t bad and we don’t feel cheated.

On the way back OUR MONEY WAS STOLEN 450$ from our wallet when we stopped on the way back and took pictures in tea plantation on 17.01.24 between 12:50-13:00.
Probably it was our tuk tuk driver as we never left our bags unattended anymore. Be carefull it was white tuk tuk with hello kitty blanket inside.
Never leave your things even for few minutes!! :((
We know from the police we were not the first ones who got robbed in Lipton Seat!!

You can enjoy a cup of tea at Lipton's seat for a mere 50 rupees. I skipped the food as it seemed to just rotate from table to table and cleanliness was questionable. Do yourself a favor, don't look inside the kitchen. Really, it's a great place to relax and soak up the view and you might as well have some tea in the middle of tea fields.

Tiny little canteen. The service was good. Cleanliness is questionable. The samosas were a hit and the rest of the food was tasty too along with their plain tea.

С погодой не повезло - было очень туманно, но подъем наверх на мини-автобусе был очень рискованным,но впечатляющим - очень красивые виды! ❤
Наверху есть памятник знаменитому Липтону и небольшая местная кафешка, где наливают так себе чай с ротти, самосой и ещё какой-то локальной едой. По ценнику пытаются обмануть, сначала с нас требовали 1900, потом 1400, в итоге сошлись на 1000 рупий за 2 чайника чая и перекус. Будьте внимательны при оплате счета!
Чистота внутри кузни весьма сомнительна, но перекусить было приятно.
We were unlucky with the weather - it was very foggy, but the climb up by mini-bus was very risky, but impressive - very beautiful views! ❤
Upstairs there is a monument to the famous Lipton and a small local cafe where they pour so-so tea with rotti, samosa and some other local food. According to the price tag, they are trying to cheat, at first they demanded 1900 from us, then 1400, in the end they agreed on 1000 rupees for 2 teapots of tea and a snack. Be careful when paying the bill!
The cleanliness inside the forge is very doubtful, but it was nice to have a snack.

Herbata jest niskiej jakości i podana w kubku zamiast w filiżance. Samosy były dość ryzykowne, bo krążą od stolika do stolika, ale były zaskakująco dobre, warto spróbować. Warto tu też usiąść dla samej atrakcji i posiedzieć chwilę z herbatą przy widokach, ale trzeba mieć świadomość, że to nie jest knajpa Liptona tylko lokalny bar i trzeba odpowiednio obniżyć oczekiwania.

Herbata podawana w plastikowych kubeczkach w smaku ok. Jedzenie przygotowywane w miejscu pozostawiającym wiele do życzenia, ale obyło się bez problemów żołądkowych.

Such a huge potential this place has, you could have a beautiful cafe on top with specialty tea and cakes etc., but instead you get ugly, dirty and shady place. We just had a tea and left. Save your time, it is horrible.
