The most noble place of Buddhist people. It is located in a very beautiful environment. Mahaveli river flows below

Gatambe temple is situated along the kandy peradeniya main road near to peradeniya botanical garden."Gatambe Bo tree" is very famous and hugely reapected among buddhists.During early mornings and nights place is not very busy but in other times place can be busy.Mahaweli river is located adjucent to the temple so you can enjoy the view.Few parking slots are available(always full)but its better to park your vehicle in botanical garden car park and walk 100meteres.

The famous Gatambe Rajopavanarama Bodhiya is located on the roadside near post 64 on the main road from Kandy to Colombo. An interesting story about this Bodhi can be seen here. The distance from Kandy to Gatambe Bodhi is about five kilometers. This Bodhiya is a tribute to the carts built in Kandy as a tipple that sheltered the wagons carrying hundreds of coffees to Colombo at night. The Parangi army encamped on the banks of the Mahaweli river near Gatambe port. When the Portuguese entered the highlands, the king left Kandy and fled to the hills, gradually approaching the city and besieging the enemy in guerilla style. The Mahaweli River was overflowing with heavy rain. Near Gatambe Bodhi, there was a cross rock that until recently stretched across the river like a natural stone wall. The flow of water in the river was very slow. It was a natural barrier in the river.

Really calm and nice ambient. Sunday evening are special because a main buddha puja is conducting. Really good place. Temple is in both side of the road. This area is said to be "Jaya-Bhumi" (Land of the victory) because, in kings time, a prince was outnumbered and chased to this land by portugal troops. And he fought off and won the battle in this area. Also it is said to be no flood will happen no matter how hard it rains in gatabe temple.

Very religious and calm temple located in Kandy Peradeniya Road. This temple is scared and has many miracles happen. People from around the island come to worship and offer alms for lord buddha and the bodhi tree. Most vehicles passing from this area stops their vehicles and get blessing from the temple by offering donations and by worshipping and praying.

After worshipping Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa ) most of the people go to this temple which is situated near the Royal Botanical Garden Peradeniya. This is a very calm and peaceful place. There is a place for GOD Vishnu idol. So people do many offerings for GOD Vishnu and it’s believed that all most all devotees prayer are fulfilled . So every Wednesday and Saturday may be little crowded. The sacred Bo Tree is very old and it was the one of new born trees from the Jaya Sri Maha Bodi.
