Strathisla Tea Estate Bungalow

We were warmly welcomed by a team of staff yesterday at this beautiful & historical property. The service and food is outstanding. A pot of tea, coffee and biscuits were provided on the verandah each afternoon & breakfast was also wonderful. Dinner was the best we have eaten during our visit to Sri Lanka. Beautiful views to Knuckles Mountain Range, tropical setting & a swimming pool all make for a perfect stay. The upper level room was large and comfortable and also has great views. A tour of the property is also included. You can even swim in the river and walk through the tea plantation. There is a mountain tap which services fresh water to the property. We rested with jungle sounds and look out for the beautiful fireflies at night. Highly recommend. Fiona from Australia.

An elegant retreat with old world charm and beautiful, quiet countryside. Think G&Ts on the veranda after a dip in the pool, before an authentic Sri Lankan dinner. The service couldn't be better - pleasant and very attentive without being too intrusive. If you like walking, the hotel will happily arrange something to suit your taste and abilities - anything from a one-hour meander to a full-day hike. Or perhaps you'd like to visit the local tea factory? Not a problem.
We'll be coming back to Sri Lanka and will definitely come back to visit our friends at Strathisla.

It’s a great place, in the middle of the jungle with amazing nature around it. We had really great time and we were really pampered by the owner and his staff. They arrange a driver for us, help us organise tours and cooked really great food! I definitely recommend if you want to be far from civilisation surrounded by beautiful nature.

If I could give 7 stars I would. By far the best place we have stayed in Sri Lanka! The Villa and rooms are amazing, the service is the best, the staff are such lovely people. We went on a beautiful free walk with one of the staff this morning through tea plantations, by rivers and waterfalls. Just wow! Oh and the food a delicious dinner, the breakfast was incredible. It’s the little things like beautiful crockery, glasses, towels, sheets everything was spotless. The pool and the gardens are absolutely lush. Wish we could stay longer and weren’t in the middle of the holiday with more places we have to see. I will be back and can’t wait to recommend this amazing place to friends and family. Thanks you everyone who looked after us so well!

If more people knew about this place it would be fully booked with a waiting list! Do not hesitate to go if you are looking for a peaceful few days swimming and relaxing up in the hills with a view that will take your breath away. I booked this place to celebrate my partners 30th birthday and I was very glad I chose here rather than a luxury hotel chain, neither of us have ever stayed anywhere so beautiful, secluded or unique.

Rooms were spacious with plenty of light and air. We woke up every morning to the birds singing. It is an old tea plantation bungalow and has been decorated accordingly. Wooden floorboards, high ceilings, dark wooden furniture in a Sri Lankan style. The house has a half wrap around porch where you can sit in the shade and sunloungers are provided for sitting by the pool. A.C is not provided but it is not needed in the cool evenings and we slept very well with just the fan.

The food that was cooked for us here was absolutely delicious. We haven't had better meals in Sri Lanka.

Thanks to the guesthouse staff, in particular Jeyko and Moorthi who were very hospitable, kind and generous with their time. We won't forget our stay.

Its a good place and qiute place. You can do your yoga also there. Foods are very tasty. Highyly recomended place.

I would give this more than 5 stars if I could. A very, very special place! Great walks too. Building has some history and character, and the view is ridiculous. Service is personal and impeccable. Serene and special, cannot recommend enough.

The villa is situated in-midst of a peaceful environment facing the mountains and it has a mesmerizing view. The crew is absolutely customer centric and friendly. Usually this villa is focused on the foreign travelers and we were fortunate enough to get a chance to spend some quality time there. Highly recommend this place for all sustainable traveller's.

Peaceful place and stylish environment. The crew is absolutely customer centric, the old house has character and the food one of the best we had in Sri Lanka. They organised for us a beautiful trekking day. Great tea plantations, cloud forest, herb and spice gardens, lovely local people. Can recommend this place for all sustainable traveller's.

The villa is beautiful, set in a wonderful garden and facing out over the hills. We enjoyed wonderful sunset skies whilst drinking on the terrace with the other guests and using the pool. The food was amazing and suited all tastes - it is prepared and served with obvious pride. The whole vibe of the place is wonderful and it attracts a good crowd.

The villa team organised a day tour of Kandy (temple and botanical garden) and another day of hiking. Both were excellent and anything we needed was provided for.

My partner and I enjoyed an incredible week-long stay at Strathisla Tea Estate. Pete, Mozelle and the team went above and beyond to make our stay very special, and to make us feel very welcome. No matter what our request, nothing was ever too much trouble.
The rooms are incredibly spacious, all slightly different in set up or views. Each room is a few steps away from the most beautiful pool area, where you can swim, sit and relax, or enjoy a meal with gorgeous views of classic 'tea country'.
The food served is outstanding and the team will be flexible with dietary needs and catering to the odd whim.
Their is such a strong sense of historic charm in both the architecture and the lush natural surrounds. The staff were always going out of their way to make us feel at 'home' - trying to think ahead, removing all the travel hassles and enabling us to slip into holiday mode as quickly as possible.
We will be back, this guesthouse quickly started to feel like a 'home' to us, and is such a standout to the many we have stayed in around the world.

Best stay at tea estate hotel Sri Lanka! Everything about our stay at the estate went above and beyond our expectations. The views were magnificent and the food even better! We will definitely recommend a stay at the tea estate for anyone who wants a relaxing, tranquil and unique experience in Sri Lanka!

A stunning and serene tea estate hotel with delightful walks amongst the tea and spice gardens. The cuisine was the best we had tasted during our time in Sri Lanka and the service was amazing. Wonderful Knuckles hiking.

Great location for... Matale town center, tea estate visits, mini worlds end and temples.
We had a cooking lesson with Priya and "estate tour" with Jeyakumar - both really good experiences.
Jeyakumar and his wife, and the staff were brilliant. Peter and his wife also very welcoming.
Nice relaxing atmosphere with light music being played, the house has lots of character.
