Jaffna Fort is a fort built by the Portuguese at Jaffna, Sri Lanka in 1618 under Phillippe de Oliveira following the Portuguese invasion of Jaffna.

This is a very special monument in Jaffna.
Jaffna fortress was firstly built by the Portuguese and after the invasion of Dutch, they took over the Jaffna fortress from the Portuguese and developed it as a pentagon shaped huge fortress but after English people invaded Sri Lanka, they took this fortress from the Dutch and used this for Administration purposes.

Built by Portuguese in the 17th century in Sri Lanka. The Fort is a popular attraction with open grounds. Some of the structures are no more, in ruins but restoration is done well. Here you can view the sunset, recommended to visit early morning or late afternoon as it takes 2 hours to go through all.
