A good place to enjoy Japanese traditional culture and dance.

Well worth a visit. You can watch a Maiko (geisha) performance for a modest fee. Need to book in advance via the official website. The tour also includes a look into the past of the historic building, now operating as a Maiko school.
Just remember not to take pictures of the Maikos without their explicit permission.

Somaro shows a small slice of Sakata’s deep history as one of Japan’s most important port cities. The Maiko culture originally developed through trade with Kyoto on the Kitamaebune ships, but it developed in its own unique way to bring you one of the best locations for a cultural experience in Japan.

Somaro is an incredible place to visit. For those interested in architecture, you can experience and see closely all the details of what was a high-class restaurant. The paintings and dolls galleries are great to see. The staff is very nice and helpful and the most mesmerizing part of Somaro are the Maiko and their perfomances, ranging from different periods of Japan. After the perfomance, you can enjoy a cup of tea next to the garden and appreciate the sound and nature. Truly, Somaro is a must visit if you are in Sakata, a city full of surprises!

Beautiful maiko

酒田の歴史に触れたく、本間美術館と迷った末に訪問。
舞妓さんに迎えていただき、館内は広く迷路のように巡るが、30分程度あれば一定回れそう。再現された館内を歩き、かつての酒田の賑わいといきづく文化を詳しく知ることができた。オススメできる。
竹久夢二ゆかりの展示もとても興味深かった。
時間が合わず、14時スタートの舞妓さんの演舞を見られずに残念。
冬に訪れる注意点としては、館内はとても寒いので、外を歩くつもりの格好で訪れるのがよい。

入樓料 大人1,000円で説明ビデオの鑑賞と樓内の自由見学ができました。
樓内は一部を除き写真撮影も自由で、大変趣のある良い施設でした。
また、竹久夢二美術館と蔵画廊のコレクション(横山大観、富岡鐵齋の掛軸や陶磁器等)も大変見応えがありました。

芸者さんの芸、
初めて拝見しました。
昔酒田が繁栄していた時は、
もっと芸妓さんいたんだろうな。
昔の良き文化を伝承されて、
本当にありがたいです。

首次看見日本🇯🇵藝伎獨有的文化傳承，感謝日本相馬樓所有人員及太平洋旅行社的精心安排。

要多留點時間在相馬樓，因為沒有查清楚表演時間，所以無法欣賞表演，很可惜。
下次一定要留下來欣賞表演。
