One of the best Shrines I have visited in Japan.
Admission is Free.
Very spacious and interesting place. It was a little crowded for a weekday but there was still plenty of room to walk and take pictures.
Plenty of cheap paid parking lots within 4 minutes walking distance. 3 hours with cost ¥400.
Definitely highly recommended and you will enjoy yourself. Rub the bull and get ready for a nice hike around the grounds.

Really enjoyed my visit here, but so be prepared for the crowds on a weekend. Some of the vendors had long lines and the streets have many tourists. Plenty of souvenir shops around also if you're looking for a gift! There are some trails that surround the shrine also which were nice to venture down. Worth the visit!

I have really come to appreciate Shinto shrines during my visit to Japan.

The peace here is wonderful. The sights are great and seeing a constant stream of people coming here to worship is heartening.

I was impressed by everything here and wish i could stay much longer.

Understand that this beautiful shrine is dedicated to learning, culture and arts. And we were fortunate enough to witness a ceremony involving young aspiring kids and their parents keen to embark on their learning journeys. Beautiful park with the colours of autumn. Lots of shops lining the way to the shrine overwhelmed by tourists.

An easy 30 or so minute train ride from Tenjin or Yakuin stations, this temple focused on learning is immensely popular, weekend or weekday, though if you can avoid the weekend, you’ll have a better experience. Allow for extra time to explore the area and go beyond the main sights & temple experiences - go for a mini hike behind the main temple to Tenkaiinari Shrine with its red torii, visit the Kyushu Museum, wander through the plum & cherry blossom areas dotted around the grounds (starting to bloom early March 2024), or try an art stroll & search for pieces & installations dotted around the area (there’s a blue art map that will help you find all). Free admission .

The shrine that every tourists will visit if they are in Fukuoka. Quite crowded at 10am as the tour groups are just arriving. The crowded part is at the Main Street and the shrine. After giving your prayers, continue exploring behind the shrine and you will chance upon the more serene part of Dazaifu. Another hidden shrine at the back where you have to walk through many tori gates to reach. And a restaurant that sells good udon too. Just explore and don’t just leave after looking at the main shrine.

Dazaifu offers historical sites and cultural experiences, but be prepared for crowds. The Tenmangu Shrine and Kyushu National Museum are highlights, but expect bustling streets and long queues.

There were a lot of visitors because it was the start of the holiday weekend. The ice cream was delicious but there was a long wait time. Expect long wait times for a lot of the popular food stalls! But it was worth the wait!

It is one of Japan's most representative shrines, and is dedicated to the god of learning, culture, art, and warding off evil spirits.
There are three bridges leading to the main hall.
The first bridge is the "Bridge of the Past". Never look back.
The second bridge is the "Bridge of the Current". Never stop.
The last bridge is the "Bridge of Future". Never stumble. If you want to take a photo, take it when you return.

A traditional Japanese shrine with a shopping street nearby, where you can get various kinds of souvenirs. The temple itself also has a garden and many historical buildings. I also saw a monkey performance nearby.

Plum bossom, many school outings and tourists. Can enjoy snacks along the way from the station, please remember to wash your hands and touch the copper cow for getting luck.
The place is not large(didn’t visit city hall and museum)that 2 hours for walking around and have snack is okay. A direct bus between Hakata and Dazaifu every 15 mins, can pay your ticket on the bus, very convenient.

🌸🎉 New Year's Blessings at Dazaifu Tenmangu 🍵🌿

Embarking on our Fukuoka journey, we visited Dazaifu Tenmangu on New Year's, captivated by the sea of people gathered for the first prayers of the year. This historical shrine, with its tranquil and spiritually uplifting ambiance, was a highlight. 🙏✨

Arriving at 9:30 am, we admired the iconic bronze bull statue, believed to bestow good luck upon those who touch it. The shrine's serene surroundings, including the heart-shaped Shinji-ike pond and vermilion bridges, offered a moment of peace amidst the festive buzz. 🐂🌁

Outside the shrine, we explored the charming streets lined with shops and restaurants, where we indulged in the famous Umegae Mochi and discovered a plethora of Mentaiko specialties, a must-try for food enthusiasts. 🍢🐟

Dazaifu Tenmangu isn't just a spiritual haven; it's a cultural journey through Japan's rich traditions and delightful culinary scene. A visit here is highly recommended for those traveling to Fukuoka, especially during the New Year for a truly unique experience. 🌟🍜

Nice place to visit. Nice scenery with a very unique temple roof. The place is huge with lots of greenery. There’s a giant tree there under protected species.

Shrine which is popular with local and tourist groups. Before you reach the shrine, there is a traditional shopping street where you can buy snacks, souvenirs or have lunch and dinner.

The shrine is good for photo taking but it has a lot of people. Entry to shrine is free and you can take a hike up to Tenkaiinari (500m) or Kamado shrine (2km).

There might be a queue for public buses so take note of the timing for the buses.

It was a very nice shrine. A lot of people, but not crowded on the 14th of November at around 12.30pm. Takes 45 minutes by bus from Hakata bus terminal to Dazaifu station and 4 minutes on foot to the shrine. Along the way, I'd recommend to try umegaemochi, it's lightly grilled anko filled mochi. There are 2 famous shops whose umegaemochi are very sought after, one is Kasano Ke (かさの家) and Yasushi (やす試).

If you like Japanese sake try your luck, you might be able to come across a sake tasting area with samples. I tried 3 and bought 1.

Beautiful temple with a nice little shopping strip. Was very busy the Monday I went, and there are some random shows as well.

Many students come to Dazaifu Tenmangu to pray for good luck in their studies. The history of the shrine is quite interesting, and there are many nearby historical landmarks as well.
