This is my second visit to Juhachiro Ryokan. I'm planning to stay 2 nights. Last time, i visited only for 1 night, and it was too short to enjoy. Juhachiro has amazing onsen and its facilities. In the onsen, there are many different types of water. Surely, onsen quality is awesome. Everyday man's and woman's onsen location (floor) changes. The room is very big and they will always prepare complimentary snacks and water bottles. Great place with the reasonable price.

I stayed one night at Juhachiro. I’ve stayed at various hotels and inns across Japan this fall and this place was by far the best. I chose to stay at a river view room. The room was meticulously clean and also quite spacious. However the highlight of my stay was the food and services provided by the server. She was a trainee from Nepal with infectious smile who spoke Japanese quite well. She is a hard worker and will everything go above and beyond for her guest (in this case me) to feel respected. When I asked some obscure question about ingredients, she immediately went back to the kitchen to find out for me. Of course the food was exceptional and I thoroughly enjoyed them. The onsen was very nice. As they alternated the use of two onsen areas, I was able to try them all. Their hot spring is reddish in colour and really felt the effects of the onsen are penetrating through your body. I highly recommend this hotel!

Luckily I’m able to book the last Japanese - western style room, though dinner and breakfast excluded, the quality of service, room and onsen are very satisfied and exceptional. Highly recommended to stay in this hotel.

Stayed for one night and it was an amazing experience! We got the room with a private hot spring tub on the balcony and could see the cormorant birds fish in the morning from the river as we soaked. The private tubs adjust for temperature too.

The staff are wonderful and their Kaiseki is 10/10. There are 2 public hot springs on site which are switched in the morning and afternoon for men and women. Highly recommend!

Best valuable breakfast and great service for adult and kids.
Hot spring is a no need to say feature but the most beautiful part is that a peaceful river just in your room windows.

Definitely will visit again.

Lovely ryokan at a great value. The rooms are spacious and the onsens are extremely clean and spacious with multiple avaialble baths and lovely, relaxing outdoor spaces to relax in. We stayed two nights but only ate in the restaurant one night because we were out exploring the other night. The meal was delicious and a great value. The breakfast buffet that is included in the room rate was incredible, with several options to choose from to start your day. They have free coffee and popsciles too in the lobby. If you're in the area, stay here!

We stayed here for Gifu half marathon and it was great! It’s about 15 minutes from JR train station. We took city bus and there was bus stop right by hotel. The staff was wonderful and we had a great time. We could walk to and from start of race. The room was lovely. They’ll breakfast was very good and plenty of room for all guests. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone visiting Gifu and participating in half marathon.

Juhachiro is well equipped and refurbished. The kaiseki dinner is amongst the best we ever had. Looks good, tastes better. Also thanks for the friendly service! Makes us feel at home

Juhachiro is a well established ryokan-style hotel on the riverside in Gifu. It’s one of the nicest places I’ve stayed in this area. Older ryokan tend to have a slightly scuffed look, but Juhachiro looks like it opened recently, it’s so clean. The service is fantastic, the staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. We were greeted like royalty outside the hotel and all subsequent interactions with staff maintained this standard. The view from our 7th floor room was grand, and if you’re there at the right time of year, you can see Ukai (traditional fishing using cormorants) from your balcony. The room had its own outside private bath, as well as public baths. The public baths include herbal baths and baths with various minerals. I recommend going later in the evening if you want a less crowded bath. The food was fantastic, dinner is served at an affiliated restaurant over the road, and the breakfast buffet is well worth getting up early for. The immediate area is beautiful - lots of old fashioned streets and architecture. And the price wasn’t bad either! The only remotely negative thing I can think of is that the room was a little smaller than I was expecting. Still, definitely worth a look.

Great onsen hotel. It maintains its traditional architecture but the interior looks pretty new and the whole place is kept very clean. There are a few different pools in the onsen which is quite special, and the quality was great. There is also a small onsen bath tub on the balcony of your room if you choose that room type, which offers a pretty special experience. The set dinner was exquisite and the breakfast buffet was decent. The location is great if you plan to visit the Gifu Castle, you can literally walk to the ropeway station. Although the room is smaller than it seems in photos and it is easy to miss the small road leading to the hotel entrance if driving at night, these are negligible issues. Last but not least, great customer service by every staff member we met. They speak English well too.

Great staff, super welcoming environment. Although their English is limited they did their best to accommodate me and there are many signs in English in the actual bathing area. The bath itself is super clean and well taken care of and most importantly relaxing. I went on a Tuesday around 3PM and luckily had the whole bath area to myself as no one else was there. Would definitely come again and recommend to anyone visiting the Gifu area.

I would give it a six star if there is such a function! The serice level is unparallel to similar price hot spring hotels. Staffs will greet you starting from parking lot and all the way to your room to explain in detail on every aspect as a customer. Location is superb too! Close to all tourist attractions. Hotel also offer free shuttle bus via train station. My room has an awesome view of the river. There are four types of hot spring for you to bath! And the outdoor onsen is a must try! Amenities are all prepared for you. Breakfast buffet is very satisfying too. I almost confused on how much I paid for my room to receive such excellent service.

*I only came here for the 2:00 PM open hot-spring baths.*

For around 1,000 yen, you can experience the heavenly delights of bathing in hot-spring baths right next to the Nagara River.

They have four different hot-spring baths available here:
1. Silky bath
2. Green-tea bath
3. Open-air bath
4. Clay bath

They were all unique, to say the least, but I think the silky bath had the most palpable effect on my skin, which felt a little leaner and less-greasy after soaking in it for about 10 minutes.

The open-air bath was the most balanced hot spring to say the least, because you can just stand up and let the gentle river breeze waft over you, staving off dizziness from the heat of the water.

10/10, would walk all the way from Gifu Station all over again.

Came specially for Ukai that's why we chose to stay here. It cost about 4000 yen per pax for tour only. No regrets at all. There's a direct walkway to Nagara River and hotel staff guided us to board the boat for Ukai. It was a great experience and there were fireworks too as we went for 1st day of Ukai Festival.

Excellent ryokan with great hospitality and breakfast buffet has lots of choices. Rooms have plentiful toiletries and amenities are great. If you lack anything, just ask for it. Service from staff is really from the heart. Down both sides of streets are restaurants and cafes. We had a room facing the Nagara River and the scenery and air is fantastic.
Every morning at 9.30am, a shuttle bus will go to Gifu station. Overall, this place is great for short stay.

We've only been to the onsen, not the hotel. Really nice onsen. Different baths, both inside and outside. The baths and also the changing rooms are clean. Also the staff is kind. One man can speak proper English and is very helpful.

Very good Ryokan. Nice breakfast, the spa is clean and with lots of options. Do not go if you have a tattoo you can't hide. They do not allow (this is a common rule in Japan).

Great Ryokan!
One of the best onsen I had with several type of baths.

Food was delicious and the staff did a special english translation of the Kaiseki menu for me. Thank you very much for this special attention.

Great staff.

One of the ryokans I want to visit. Best atmosphere and bath, near gifu castle. If you like Japanese history or oda nobunaga, you can take a trip to gifu and stay a night with this ryokan

Juhachiro was amazing. My wife and I loved the hotel, the onsen, and the surrounding town. The staff was very helpful and welcoming especially with native English speakers.
