This museum was absolutely breathtaking! The exhibits were so unique and fascinating to learn about. There was ambient lighting and also huge windows that set up a very cool atmosphere. Being able to see the wide, shimmery sea was wonderful. This museum is located in the beautiful Atami with a great view of the ocean. It is absolutely worth seeing the gorgeous, ukiyo-e museum of art!

The location of the museum is at the top of a mountain which has a good view over the harbour of Atami. The architecture of the museum is very unique as it is built like a terrace. There are a few sets of escalator to take you to the museum while you can enjoy the magnificent light show on the ceiling.
There are Japanese and western restaurants, Cafe, you can rest your feet.
If you don’t drive, you can catch a bus from the train station to avoid climbing the slope.

Neat little museum high up in mountains of Atami. Great views! Pro tip, they offer special dinner and fireworks viewing from museum but requires advanced reservations online. I would recommend this! By the time we checked was all full. The light shows in this museum are unlike any other. Pretty cool for photo memory.

Quite a surprise: We read about Atumi and (honestly for the first time) about the founder of the museum. Because we had time we drove there: Great museum with I pressive displays of beautifully presented traditional Japanese art. The views from the terrace were equally impressive. Very well worth the excursion!

The architecture of the place itself is of great taste and so is the art display

A very calming atmosphere at a beautiful location. So clean the stairs are shiny. The signs and most of the art descriptions are in English and all the staff tried hard to communicate. Well worth a visit.

An amazing place where you can relax your soul. If you know Japanese, no one will bother you, there is a description everywhere. Information boards are available and you can use a translator on your phone. Some exhibits cannot be photographed; there are signs. The adult hall deserves attention and is very busy.

Although there are not many arts, the space is quite beautiful and easy to make travelers feeling comfortable. Don’t miss out the chance to visit it!

This museum was a great shelter in the midst of a rainstorm that hit Atami during our trip!
It usually has a great view of the town when you sit in the cafe or the restaurant the museum has, but it was too cloudy 😄 the gallery and exibition was super interesting too! We enjoyed the visit very much!

The museum is on the top of the hill, a very steep one, so do take a bus (or a taxi). There is usually a bus that goes straight from the station to the museum (¥170 on Nov 2017). The place itself is a little small but the exhibition is nice. I love the tea garden. So pretty in Autumn with all those red maple leaves.

I and my husband were fascinated by this museum for its beautiful design. It is located in a hill, and the nature's beauty can be enjoyed in the museum by looking through the big windows. Be sure to have a Japanese style lunch there, and have a cup of mocha.

I really enjoyed the 36 Views of Mount Fuji prints exhibit, as well as other things on display. The building is beautiful and modern. It's located on a mountain above Atami and has stunning views in all directions. If you like to take your time reading exhibit descriptions, arrive before 3pm. That was when I arrived and was not able to see everything. They also stop selling food around 3 - 3:30.

If you like to see story of old things (such as vessel , plate, paint etc) this place will fulfill your wish. On the other hand the architect of the building was astonished me. Can take many good photos in here. And there are 7 long escalator here.

Very nice museum, interesting architecture, beautiful views of the sea and coastline. Nice display of traditional japanese art from the 16th to 18th centuries, and there was an interesting exhibit on contemporary pottery when we visited. Definitely worth checking out.

Fabulous view from the top of the mountain. People can see the coast line and all the way to Oshima. Suggest to stay there for 2-3 hours!

Small but exceptional museum. The setting is beautiful with a panoramic view of Atami and the sea. Collection is very well curated, and holds some well know national treasure of Japanese art. Nice garden in the back with a good choice of restaurants. A must if you visit Atami.

When we visited there was an Ukiyo-e exhibition with works by Hokusai and Hiroshige. It was a wonderful experience: beautiful woodcuts in a spacious setting, elegant architecture, green grounds, beautiful views, and a cafe with really excellent chiffon cake and cappuccino.

This place is amazing, you can buy a bus ticket that takes you all the way up the mountain to the entrance to this museum. From there you buy your ticket and enter the building going up what seems like the escalators to heaven. The rotunda is beautiful, soon after you go up another level or two and you are at the museum. You can see one of the most glorious views of Atami, and Hatsushima. The view of the ocean and the island alone is worth the price to enter the museum. There are then many things you can enjoy displayed in such classy styles. The glass is so clean you forget it’s there.

My favorite were the scrolls that reminded me of manga, you are getting only a sample of the stories beautifully painted but you feel part of the story as you walk along almost witnessing the stories unfold. It was an educative experience.

There is English everywhere around the displays etc. if you come to Atami, you MUST come here!
