It's a local independent resort hotel highly recommended by my guide book, and our overall experience was satisfactory.

We chose a smaller western style room with two single beds, however they do offer much larger Japanese style rooms with futons and separate sitting room. Our room had a great view of the Sakura Island.

There are plenty of options in terms of restaurants insides the compound.

We ate one meal at their Cantonese place and one meal at their Italian restaurant. The Italian one served set menus almost like western kaiseki; food was remarkable; while the Cantonese restaurant did a good job using local ingredients. Their lounge also has a wonderful view of the area, and cooked up good curry dish as well as great club sandwich.

We did encounter an issue with our door lock, which took them 45 minutes to resolve it. Initially we were disappointed by their slow responses. But after communicating with their supervisor and manager; they not only apologize for our inconvenience also promise to correct their in house procedures to prevent this from happening again for their future customers. This demonstrated their care about customer satisfaction as well as they are following a quality improvement process like ISO 9000.

We are happy that our experience can bring this reputable hotel to the next level of quality services.

In the end we commend their management in listening to customers like us and shows willingness to improve their services.

Everything at the Shiroyama Hotel is BIG. And impeccably luxurious in the classic European tradition (the doormen wear top hats). Now six decades old, the Shiroyama has been kept modern, polished, and beautifully appointed, inside and out. This hotel has plenty of everything — varieties of rooms, restaurants and bars, spas , onsens, and health facilities, stores, bakeries, boutiques, and, it seems, countless ballrooms and meeting rooms. All are of the highest order, as is the service.

The huge Shiroyama — 385 rooms — is nestled in a wonderful hilltop park overlooking Kagoshima, with scores of challenging walking paths. But for many guests like us, the main attraction is the view across Kinko Bay to the very active volcano Sakurajima. It’s staggeringly beautiful — which raises an important point: be sure your room is in the front of the hotel! We were almost put in a room on the hotel’s inland-facing backside (despite booking well in advance and being high ranking One Harmony members), which would have been a catastrophe. To the front, the vistas overlooking a wonderful fountain are quite breathtaking, day and night. Our medium-tier room was spacious, modern, and equipped with a large picture window and an attractively-renovated bathroom.

speaking of breathtaking, also pretty breathtaking is the breakfast buffet, laid out in a giant glass-walled room with a grand volcano vista and featuring miles and miles of buffet counters displaying myriad Japanese and western menu items being sampled by hundreds of diners (interesting note: on our two days there we were the only gaijin in the room). We cannot speak to the quality of the other restaurants except for the rather bland Cantonese restaurant, which gets a B-plus at best, although the decor was nice.

The Shiroyama provides a complimentary luxury shuttle bus to various locations down the mountain in Kagoshima, including a lift to the the Shinkansen station and to the ferry across to the volcano (a worthwhile junket, we thought, when you include the bus tour on the volcano side). All other services and amenities are top-notch, and if you like living big in southern Japan, the Shiroyama is a first-class way to go.

It's super convenient and impressive. There is a free shuttle bus that you can go or leave easily. The Shiroyama park is so close, so you can walk from the hotel only 5 minutes and you can get another bus, Kagoshima city view bus there. The staffs are kindly and helpful. The scene of Sakurajima and the city at the hotel also very nice. There are a lot of room type you can choose and the price is related. Even the lowest price room, I got the notable view of forest which has hawks gliding above. It's not only a place for have a good rest, but you can also have the best place to work! The onsen is also impressive. With the outdoor onsen including Sakurajima scene, that is very amazing to spend your time as much as you want! I will exactly visit this place again next time in Kagoshima! Only one thing that i regretted was I cannot take a photo pf the Sakurajima at the onsen, but actually, it reasonable! Lol.

I only used the Onsen, and it was outstanding. Having an outdoor Onsen experience with the great view was just an amazing experience. One of the must things to do if you visit Kagoshima.

Just a quick tip, you don't have to stay in to use Hot springs only. In 2023 it was 3000 yen for the Onsen only admission.

Great views of Kagoshima. The onsen is really nice after a long day of sightseeing. The fitness center does cost extra

Excellent service, the quality of the breakfast is good!!!! The best breakfast I had in my past Japan trips.

If you drive there, extra parking fee is needed. Also the parking space is far away to the main building.

Stunning view, kind services and accommodation.Definitely one of the best hotels in Kagoshima city, highly recommended!

It takes 20-25min via shuttle bus (maybe 10-15min by taxi or yourselves), not so close to the city center, but the scenery with Sakurajima right in front of you is simply stunning.
(Even if you couldn't get the ocean/Sakurajima view rooms, don't worry. You can see them from their large public bath. (大浴場))
Some of their facilities are old, but everything is well maintained and cleaned. Also all the service staffs are kind and friendly, please ask them anything, anytime.
Last, their breakfast buffet option is must, strongly recommended, too😌

Staying at the Shiroyama Hotel Kagoshima was the best part of our trip to Japan. As foreigners travelling to Japan - we appreciated that an English speaking staff was on hand to assist at any time.
The hotel itself was beautiful, perched on a mountain top overlooking Sakurajima. Lots of amenities available including an indoor and outdoor onsen with views of the volcano. Service here was impeccable with recommendations for sightseeing and making us feel comfortable. The hotel has a free bus that goes to and from the city regularly - this was very useful for us while travelling around Kagoshima.
We came here for our honeymoon and will definitely be back to celebrate our anniversaries. Highly recommend to any visitor to Kagoshima.

Excellent service as expected at one of the best, if not the best, hotels in Kagoshima. Of course the view from your room and the onsen is the selling point, however, their dinner (and breakfast) is also wonderful and we were lucky to have the venue all by ourselves at night. If you drive, the fee will be ¥1000 per night and since the parking facility is a bit further down from the hotel, they do have a dedicated shuttle to take you to and from the lot. Highly recommended!

It is a symbolic hotel of Kagoshima, which is built in the place with the best view in Kagoshima prefecture. The employees are full of hospitality and will make your experience in Kagoshima the best. You can forget the time in the open-air bath of the large public bath with a superb view of Sakurajima from Kinko Bay. I highly recommend staying here in Kagoshima.

Just what everyone said- views from rooms and from the onsen are wonderful. Is a free bus that runs into town, altough the walk down and up isn't terrible.

One of the best morning breakfast I ever had in my life. A huge buffet counter with different local popular and traditional food. Delicious!
We took the room which was facing the Sakurajima, the view was beautiful. Just the traffic was not very convenient and the place is too big, you might have to walk a bit to different place.

It’s a nice hotel on the top of the hill in Kagoshima city. You’ll have a great view from the garden or observatory place. When it’s a good weather and the sky is clear, you can clearly see the Sakurajima volcano and Kagoshima city for free. There are plants of restaurants and tiny shops inside the hotel, so that you can enjoy lunch, dinner, afternoon tea and shopping. It’s is usually crowded on weekends but weekdays can be relaxing and quiet.

The hotel has great service. They even have someone accompany you to the room to explain the amenities in the room and how certain appliances work (in English).

If you're lucky enough to get a room with a view of Sakurajima, wake up early and enjoy the unobstructed view of the volcano. The volcano can also be seen from the cafe next to the main lobby in the north side of the hotel.

Super friendly staff. Food is great, but you'll pay for it. Not quite fine dining standards in the West. If you want to indulge with a great view looking down into Kagoshima city and Sakura island, stay here!

Such an amazing place! Every time I'm in Kagoshima, even if I don't stay at Shiroyama, I walk to it to have a lunch or dinner or just enjoy the view. Beautiful views, friendly staff, awesome pubic bath overlooking Sakurajima.

It would be an enjoyable stay. Although the price isn't cheap, the view will take your breath with night view of Kagoshima city and Sakurajima volcano.
The breakfast takes you extra money, but worth.
